The Dewar Dragons traveled to Porter-Consolidated High School last Thursday evening to battle the host Porter Pirates in a boys varsity basketball contest.
The road game at Porter was not on the original regular-season schedule for both schools, being added last week.
The Dragons were unable to find a way past the very talented Porter Pirate squad, who entered the contest ranked 14th in Class A and sported a near-flawless 9-1 season record, suffering a 70-55 setback in the road contest.
The Dewar gentlemen were scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Schulter to battle their Okmulgee County rivals, the Schulter Bulldogs. The Dragons are also scheduled to host the Webbers Falls Warriors this Friday at 8 p.m. at the Clell W. Henson Fieldhouse in Dewar.
Last Thursday’s contest was an important game for one Porter athlete, as senior Kejuan Reynolds reached the 1,000-point plateau with a basket in the second period.
The Dragons matched the host Pirates point-forpoint in the opening period with both teams tallying 18 points in the first eight minutes of action.
Porter lit up the scoreboard in the second quarter, as the visiting Dewar gentlemen were outscored 26- 12 in the frame to trail 44-30 at the intermission.
The host Pirate squad increased its lead to 59-39 after taking the third period by a 15-9 margin.
The Dragons attempted to overcome the 20-point deficit in the final frame, but only managed a 5-point advantage - 16-11 - to fall by a 70-55 decision.
A quartet of Dewar players reached double figures in the road loss, led by Kaelem Carter with 15. Ty Whitlow was next for the Dragons with 14, followed by Jameson Ross with 11 and Thomas Brownfield 10.
