Lady Bulldogs make early exit at Graham-Dustin Tournament

The Schulter Lady Bulldog varsity basketball team went winless last weekend at the Graham-Dustin Invitational basketball tournament.

The Schulter Lady Bulldog varsity basketball team went winless last weekend at the Graham-Dustin Invitational basketball tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs began the tournament last Thursday with a 56-15 loss to their Okmulgee County rivals, the Wilson Lady Tigers, then ended their participation last Friday with a 35-11 defeat at the hands of the host Graham-Dustin Lady Chieftains.

The Schulter ladies were back on the hardwood Monday, hosting the Graham-Dustin Chieftains and Lady Chieftains. The Lady Bulldogs will also be in action Friday with a home meeting with Paden.

Below are summaries from the Schulter Lady Bulldogs’ participation at the Graham-Dustin Invitational basketball tournament.

Girls Bracket

First Round

Wilson 56, Schulter 15

The Lady Bulldogs were outscored 21-1 in the opening period, then were edged by their county rivals 8-6 in the second stanza for a 29-7 deficit at the intermission. The Schulter ladies were unable to overcome the double-digit in the second half, as they were outscored 18-8 and 9-0, respectively, in the final two quarters suffer the 56-15 defeat.

Schulter was led by Caidence Campbell with six, followed by Addiemae Kanada with five and Jenna Henderson four.

Wilson’s top scorer was Korra Blackbear with a game-high 15 points. Brooklyn Weeks (13) and Janelle Proctor (12) also totaled double-digit scoring performances for Wilson in the opening-round contest, while Mellani Blackbear just missed double figures with nine. Kailee Branson rounded out the Lady Tiger scoring with seven points.

Consolation Semifinals

Graham-Dustin 35, Schulter 11

The Lady Bulldogs were held scoreless in the first period, as the host Lady Chieftains tallied 14 points in the frame. The Schulter ladies were outscored 10-2 in the second quarter to go into the halftime break down by a 24-2 margin. The Lady Bulldogs came out of the third stanza with a narrow 6-4 advantage, but were unable to continue their comeback attempt in the final eight minutes, being outscored 7-3 to wind up on the losing end of a 35-11 outcome.

Jenna Henderson was tops in scoring for Schulter with nine, while Journey Henderson accounted for the other two points for the Lady Bulldogs in the elimination contest.
