THE SOLEMNITY OF EPIPHANY (Is. 60:1-6/Eph. 3:2-6/Mat. 2:1-12)
THE SOLEMNITY OF EPIPHANY (Is. 60:1-6/Eph. 3:2-6/Mat. 2:1-12)
The word “Epiphany” is a Greek word which means “manifestation.” On this day of Epiphany, Jesus Christ manifested himself to all peoples on earth as He is God to become a human person in order to save all mankind.
He came into the world not only for the Jews but for all people.
This idea is presented in today’s second reading of Paul: “God’s secret plan… has been revealed by the Spirit… In Christ Jesus, the Gentiles are now coheirs with the Jews, members of the gospel.”
This Feast of Epiphany also manifests how Jesus was to be the Savior of all peoples, that is, what he was going to do in order to win salvation.
The Church according to a very ancient tradition sees that when Jesus was born in Bethlehem he showed the Astrologers (Magi) who were not Jews but wanted to know about almighty God.
They followed the start, and after many difficult journeys they finally found Jesus in a manger very humble and simple with his mother Mary and father Joseph. But they believed that he is almighty God.
Through Baptism was received God gives us Faith and Salvation. We must follow Jesus who is only God now and forever.
He came into the world to save all those who really accept him as God. We do not need to offer Jesus Christ with gold, frankincense or Myrrh. We have a most precious gift to God from our hearts. It must be a total giving of our
It must be a total giving of ourselves as it was for Jesus in his sacrifice, that sacrifice which is ours in every single day we do with Jesus.
What God reveals most of all is God’s love for us, and for all people everywhere, that deep personal, divine love. But without a response from us, God’s love is wasted.
So as we celebrate Epiphany, we then will go on in life. We will continue on to other celebrations, such as the Baptism of Jesus, His Death and Resurrection of this Divine Child.
We will celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon us.
So it will go year after year on our journey of our lives. And our final Epiphany is that when Jesus Christ our God and Savior will welcome all of us in His Kingdom where He will manifest Himself to all and His Saints of eternal life.
