The Okmulgee Lady Bulldog basketball team remained winless on the season following three-straight losses at the 2021 Preston Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The Okmulgee Lady Bulldog basketball team remained winless on the season following three-straight losses at the 2021 Preston Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs began their participation at the annual 3-day event with an 85-24 loss to the host Preston Lady Pirates last Thursday evening, then dropped back-to-back loser’s bracket meetings with Summit Christian (67-31) and Okay (55-25), respectively to fall to 0-6 on the year.

The Okmulgee ladies were back in action on Tuesday, hosting the Haskell Lady Haymakers in the first-half finale.

After a 2-week break for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the Lady Bulldogs will resume their schedule January 3 at Hilldale.

In last Thursday’s opening-round meeting with the host Lady Pirates, the Okmulgee ladies were unable to get their offense going throughout the county battle with Preston taking each quarter by double digits.

The host Lady Pirates came out of the opening frame with a 31-6 advantage, then took the next three frames by margins of 17- 5, 22-9, and 15-4, respectively, to put the Lady Bulldogs on the losing end of an 85-24 decision.

The other Preston scorers in the county showdown were Mya Tiger with eight, Pheobey Finch three, and Kyla Johnson two.

In Friday’s consolation semifinal meeting with Summit Christian, the Lady Bulldogs came out of the opening frame with a narrow 13-12 advantage. The Okmulgee offense sputtered during the remaining three quarters, being outscored 18-6, 24-4, and 13-8, respectively, to suffer the 67-31 defeat.

The top scorer for the Lady Bulldogs against Summit Christian was Tori James with 10, followed by Mariya Tecumseh with seven and Natori Yates and Dalazia Hammon with five each. Cyann Powell and Cameryn Williamson rounded out the Okmulgee scoring with two points apiece.

In Saturday’s seventh-place game against the Okay Lady Mustangs, the Okmulgee ladies led by a narrow 11-10 margin after the first eight minutes of action.

The Lady Bulldogs totaled 14 points the remainder of the contest, while Okay put up point totals of 20, 9, and 16 points, respectively, in the final three quarters to hand the Okmulgee ladies the 55-25 loss.
