Dragons rout Graham-Dustin in opener

The Dewar Dragon varsity basketball team officially kicked off their 2021-2022 season Tuesday night with a convincing 81-30 victory over the Graham-Dustin Chieftains.

The Dewar Dragon varsity basketball team officially kicked off their 2021-2022 season Tuesday night with a convincing 81-30 victory over the Graham-Dustin Chieftains.

The season-opening win came in the first round of the 2021 Wilson Tiger Classic basketball tournament.

The decisive opening-round victory put the Dragons into the semifinal round of the week-long tournament Thursday at 5:45 p.m. against the Midway Chargers, who advanced with an opening-round win Tuesday over Schulter.

A win Thursday would have put the Dewar gentlemen into Saturday’s 7:40 p.m. championship game against the winner of Thursday’s other semifinal game between Webbers Falls and Riverfield Day Country School.

A loss Thursday would have dropped the Wilson squad into Saturday’s 5 p.m. third-place game against the Webbers Falls-Riverfield semifinal loser.

Ȧfter the conclusion of the Tiger Classic, the Dragons will return to the hardwood Tuesday, hosting the Mason Eagles before closing out the first-half portion of their regular-season next Thursday at home against Wetumka.

In Tuesday’s opening-round thrashing of Graham-Dustin, the Dewar gentlemen took the first quarter by a convincing 24-6 margin, then outscored the Chieftains 23-5 in the second stanza to go into the intermission with a comfortable lead, 47-11.

The Dragons went into the final eight minutes of regulation in complete control, 73-20, after coming out the third period with a 26-9 advantage.

Graham-Dustin took the final frame by a slim 10-8 margin, but it was the Dewar squad that walked off the gym floor at the Tiger Den with the dominating 81-30 decision.

The duo of Jameson Ross and Thomas Brownfield led a balanced offensive attack for the Dragons in the opening-round win with both talented athletes finishing with 17 points. Kaelem Carter and Ty Whitlow also reached double digits in scoring for Dewar with 16 and 11, respectively. Other Dragon scorers against Graham-Dustin

Other Dragon scorers against Graham-Dustin were Ishmael Stewart with six, Colton Thomason five, Kade Henderson four, Stephen Thetford three, and Jerron Brison two.
