Knights suffer Senior Nite setback to Victory Christian

The Henryetta Golden Knights had their dreams of a postseason appearance in 2021 dashed this past Friday night with a 59-8 loss to the visiting Victory Christian Conquerors.

The double-digit setback came in the Knights’ final home game of the 2021 regular season.

The Henryetta gridiron squad will close out their 2021 campaign this Friday in Okmulgee, battling the host Okmulgee Bulldogs.

Friday’s season finale against Okmulgee is scheduled to get started at 7 p.m. at historic Harmon Field in Okmulgee.

In last Friday’s home finale, the Henryetta defense had no answer for Victory Christian’s offensive duo of quarterback Triton Chandler and tailback Solomon Byrams, who accounted for most of the Conquerors’ scoring in the District 2A-7 contest. The visitors opened the scoring in the first pe

The visitors opened the scoring in the first period on a 40-yard pass from Chandler to Gunner Wilson. Byrams crossed the goal line on the conversion attempt to give Victory Christian the early 8-0 advantage.

Chandler and Wilson hooked up on the next scoring opportunity for the Conquerors - a 55- yard aerial strike. Luke Freeman’s successful run on the conversion try pushed the Victory Christian lead to 16-0.

The final two scores from the visitors in the opening frame came on a 50-yard run by Byrams and a 60-yard run by Chandler, respectively. Mitchell Trotter toed the PAT kicks following the long-distance runs to put the host Knights in a large 30-0 deficit at the end of the first 12 minutes of action. Byrams’ 20-yard scamper, followed by Trotter’s

Byrams’ 20-yard scamper, followed by Trotter’s successful extra-point kick, pushed the Conqueror lead to 37-0, then Bryam scored on a 5-yard run later in the second quarter and ran in the conversion attempt to send the district contest to the halftime break with the Henryetta squad trailing 45-0.

The visitors finished off their 59-point performance in the third period with a 30-yard run by Byrams and a 20-yard run by Teyton Chandler. Trotter split the uprights with the PAT kicks following the TD runs to extend Victory Christian’s lead to 59-0, heading into the final quarter of regulation.

The Knights avoided a shutout loss late in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard TD run by David Reid. Reid then bulldozed his way into the end zone on the conversion attempt to make the final outcome, 59-8, in favor of the visiting Victory Christian Conquerors.
