The Morris Lady Eagle fastpitch softball team saw their dreams of a district championship fade away on Wednesday afternoon at the Morris high school softball field.
The Lady Eagles, who began the week with a sweep of their arch rivals, the Henryetta Lady Knights, to sit in a tie for third in the 3A-7 district standings with their county foes, fell behind early and were unable to overcome the deficit, falling to the visiting Lady Haymakers by a 7-3 margin.
The loss puts the Morris diamond squad at 6-4 in district play and currently fourth in the 3A-7 standings.
The Lady Eagles were back in action on Thursday, competing at the Inola Tournament. The Morris squad was scheduled to battle Catoosa and Grove in Pool Play action at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively, on Thursday and will conclude Pool Play Friday at 2:30 p.m. against Verdigris. Morris and its three opponents will be part of Pool B, while the four teams in Pool A will be Miami, Collinsville, Lincoln Christian, and the host Inola Lady Longhorns.
Depending on how the Lady Eagles fare in their three Pool Play games will determine what time Saturday they will compete. The times for Saturday’s tournament action will be as follows: Pool A #4 vs Pool B #4 @ 10 a.m., Pool A #3 vs Pool B #3 @ 11:30 a.m., Pool A #2 vs Pool B #2 @ 1 p.m. (3rd Place), and Pool A #1 vs Pool B #1 @ 2:30 p.m. (Championship).
After the Inola Tournament, the Morris ladies will close out their regular-season schedule Tuesday with a trip to Okmulgee for a 3A-7 doubleheader against the host Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs.
