CUSSEDNESS
By Mary Morris
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)"
We pretty much know what we're supposed to do. What makes it so difficult for us?
We're faulty. We have egos. We're the product of environment and upbringing. We could write an entire laundry list of things that make us act in a manner unlike what Micah has described.
But when it comes right down to the nitty gritty, it's just pure cussedness. We choose what actions we take each time we take
We choose what actions we take each time we take them. And if we know right from wrong, yet do the wrong, that's our choice. It's sheer cussedness.
That word even has a dictionary definition: meanspirited; disagreeable contrariness; orneriness; perverseness; deliberate and stubborn unruliness and resistance to guidance and discipline.
Let's face it -- we'll never be perfect. But with prayer and God's grace, we can be better. Our Father turned Saul, a persecutor of the faith and accomplice to murder, into one of His best advocates. Few of us have been either persecutors or murderers, so there's plenty of room for hope that we can change from cussedness to blessedness.
