The Okmulgee Lady Bulldog slowpitch softball team suffered three run-rule losses earlier this week. The Lady Bulldogs dropped a pair of setbacks (15-2,

11-0) to the Class 3A No. 5 Mounds Lady Eagles at home on Monday, then came up on the short end of an 11-3 decision to the Seminole Lady Chieftains on the road on Tuesday.

The Okmulgee diamond squad was scheduled to travel to Gore on Thursday and close out their regular-season schedule with road games at Kiefer and Crowder Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

In Monday’s home finale against Mounds, the Lady Bulldogs tallied their two runs in the opening contest in the bottom of the second.

Mounds opened the scoring with six runs in the top of the first, then added four in the second for a 10-0 advantage.

The visitors capped off their 15-run total in the first game with five runs in the top of the fourth, while the Okmulgee squad was unable to produce any runs in the bottom of the frame to suffer the 15-2 setback.

Jade Whinery led the offensive attack for the Lady Bulldogs, going 2 for 2 with a pair of singles and an RBI.

The other five base hits for the Lady Bulldogs in Monday’s opening contest came on singles by Cyann Powell, Mariya Tecumseh, Gabbi Garcia, and Tot Harris and an RBI single by Natori Yates.

Tecumseh also reached base on a walk in the contest, while Tori James was the only other Okmulgee hitter to reach against Mounds, finding her way on the basepaths on an error.

In Monday’s second battle with Mounds, the Lady Bulldogs were limited to just two hits - singles by Mercedes Cosby and Tori James. Gabbi Garcia (error) and Natori Yates (fielder’s choice) were the only other baserunners for Okmulgee in Monday’s nightcap.

Mounds opened the scoring in the second game with three runs in the top of the second, then added four in the third and four in the fourth to hand the Okmulgee ladies the 11-0 defeat.

In Tuesday’s road game at Seminole, the host Lady Chieftains broke a scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the second.

The Lady Bulldogs took their lone lead of the contest, 2-1, in the top of the third, plating a pair of runs.

Seminole regained the lead, 5-2, with four runs in the last of the third, then added four in the fourth for a 9-2 advantage.

The Okmulgee ladies pushed across one run in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to six, 9-3, while the host Lady Chieftains ended the contest on the run rule with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, handing the Lady Bulldogs the 11-3 setback.

The Okmulgee offense was led by Cyann Powell and Gabbi Garcia with RBI singles.

The other base hits for the Lady Bulldogs in the road contest came on singles by Jade Whinery, Mercedes Cosby, Tori James, and Morgan Goddard and a double by Mariya Tecumseh.

Other Okmulgee baserunners in Tuesday’s road game were Whinery (error), Cosby (walk), Powell (fielder’s choice), Tecumseh (walk, fielder’s choice), Tot Harris (walk), and Natori Yates (error).
