Dragons take 2 of 3 at home in recent action

The Dewar Dragon varsity baseball team went 2-1 this past weekend at Wiley Ryal Park.

The lone loss for the Dragons came this past Saturday to Class A No. 2 Rattan by a 15-3 margin.

The two wins this past weekend for the Dewar diamond squad came this past Friday, defeating the Stonewall Longhorns by a 5-1 margin and the Canadian Cougars by a 14-2 decision.

The Dragons were back in action Tuesday with a trip to Crowder for a showdown with the Crowder Demons and are scheduled to host Porum and Oilton on Friday and Beggs and Henryetta on Saturday.

In Friday’s win over Canadian, the Cougars tallied their two runs in the first and second innings.

Dewar plated seven runs in the home half of the first for a 7-1 margin, then closed out the run-rule win with seven runs in the bottom of the third.

The top hitters for the Dragons against Canadian were Joey Fowler (2 for 2, single, double, 2 RBI), Jaden Maxwell (2 for 2, 2 doubles, RBI), Thomas Brownfield (2 for 3, 2 singles), and Brett Hays (2 for 3, 2 singles, 2 RBI) with two hits apiece.

The other base hits for Dewar in the contest came on singles by Tryton Mack and Baylor Selby, an RBI single by Micah Cloud, and a 2-run single by Shawn Maxwell.

Other baserunners for the Dragons against Canadian were Cloud (error), Brownfield (error), Shawn Maxwell (walk), and Garrett Loyd (walk, error). Selby drove in a run in the third with an RBI sacrifice fly.

Kade Henderson earned the pitching win for Dewar, allowing two runs on one hit with three strikeouts and six walks in two innings of work.

Tyler Maldonado walked two in a scoreless inning of relief work for the Dragons in the run-rule win.

In Friday’s hard-fought win over Stonewall, the Dragons opened the score with a run in the bottom of the first. The Dewar squad added a run in each of the third and fourth innings for a 3-0 advantage, then put the finishing touches on their 5-run total with a pair of runs in the last of the fifth.

Stonewall broke up the shutout bid with a run in the top of the seventh to award the host Dragons the 5-1 victory.

The offensive standout for Dewar in the win was Garrett Loyd, who blasted a solo home run in the third.

The other three base hits in the contest for the Dragons were RBI singles by Shawn Maxwell, Joey Fowler, and Brett Hays.

Other baserunners for Dewar against Stonewall were Loyd (walk), Hays (error), Shawn Maxwell (walk), Tyler Maldonado (error, hit by pitch), and Thomas Brownfield (2 hit by pitch).

Micah Cloud worked the first six plus innings on the mound for Dewar to earn the pitching win. Cloud gave up one run on two hits, striking out three and walking five in the quality start.

Brownfield entered with the bases loaded and no outs in the seventh and kept the Longhorns off the scoreboard the remainder of the inning, striking out one, to receive the pitching save in the contest.

In Saturday’s showdown with the second-ranked Rams, the Dragons got the scoring started with a run in the home half of the first.

Rattan plated four in the second and six in the third for a 10-1 advantage after three and one-half innings of action.

The host Dragons made it a 10-3 contest with a pair of runs in the last of the third, while Rattan tallied five in the top of the fifth to hand the Dewar squad the 15-3 setback.

Thomas Brownfield was saddled with the pitching loss for Dewar, allowing nine runs on two hits with two strikeouts, five walks, and one hit batter in two innings of work.

Joey Fowler worked an inning of relief for the Dragons, allowing two runs on two hits, walking two and hitting two.

Brett Hays went the final two innings of the 5-inning contest, giving up four runs on three hits with one strikeout, three walks, and one hit batter in the relief appearance.

The Dragons were limited to five hits in the meeting - RBI singles by Brownfield and Baylor Selby, a double by Garrett Loyd, and singles by Tyler Maldonado and Shawn Maxwell.

Other baserunners for Dewar against Rattan were Maldonado (2 walks), Fowler (walk), Selby (fielder’s choice), Hays (hit by pitch), Shawn Maxwell (walk, fielder’s choice), Micah Cloud (walk), and Jaden Maxwell (hit by pitch).
