The Demons, who went winless at last weekend’s Chandler Tournament, began Tuesday’s doubleheader sweep with an 11-0 victory in four and one and one-half innings, then took the nightcap by a 12-3 margin.
In the sweep, Beggs pitchers combined to allow just four runs on two hits in 11 innings of work.
Dawson Barrett gave up one run on one hit with eight strikeouts and one walk in a 5-inning, complete-game, win in Tuesday’s opener, while the duo of Jameson Ross and Brayden Gable combined to allow three runs on one hit with 14 strikeouts, one walk, and one hit batter in six innings of work in the nightcap. Ross worked the first four and one-third innings, allowing one run on no hits, striking out 11 and walking one, while Gable gave up two runs on one hit with three strikeouts and one hit batter in an inning and two-thirds of relief.
In Tuesday’s opening contest, the Demons opened the scoring with a run in the home half of the first, then added two in the second, four in the third, and four in the fourth to complete the 11-run total.
Caleb Burright led the offensive attack for Beggs in the shutout win, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. Burright also reached on a fielder’s choice in the contest.
The other base hits for the Demons in the opening contest came on a single by Dalton Hastings and 2-run singles by Ross and Andrew Duclos.
Baserunners in the shutout victory were Ross (walk, error), Barrett (walk), Hastings (RBI walk), Duclos (walk, error), Gable (walk), Darieon Johnson (3 walks), Ethan Busby (walk), and Wyatt Nail (RBI walk, fielder’s choice).
In Tuesday’s nightcap, the visitors tallied one run in the top of the third, then added two in the top of the sixth for their 3-run total.
Beggs began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, then added a run in each of the second and third innings for a 3-1 advantage.
The Demons pushed across two runs in the last of the fourth, then made it a 6-1 contest with one run in the home half of the fifth.
After North Rock Creek made it a 6-3 Beggs lead with its two runs in the top of the sixth, the Demons put the finishing touches on their second run-rule win over the Cougars with a 6-run bottom of the sixth.
Dawson Barrett was the top hitter for Beggs in the nightcap, going 3 for 5 with three singles and 2 RBIs.
Brayden Gable (2 for 5, 2 singles), Andrew Duclos (2 for 4, 2 singles, 2 RBI), and Dalton Hastings (2 for 3, single, double, 2 RBI) also recorded multi-hit games for the Demons in the contest with two hits apiece.
