Lady Knights begin 2021 with sweep

The Henryetta Lady Knight slowpitch softball team began their 2021 season Monday evening, taking on the Checotah Lady Wildcats and Okemah Lady Panthers in a 3-team meeting at the Henryetta softball fields.

The Henryetta Lady Knight slowpitch softball team began their 2021 season Monday evening, taking on the Checotah Lady Wildcats and Okemah Lady Panthers in a 3-team meeting at the Henryetta softball fields.

The Lady Knights came away with run-rule victories over both opponents, defeating Checotah by a 9-1 margin in the opening contest, then routing Okemah 17-4 in the final game of the 3-game schedule. Checotah took the middle contest by an 11-1 margin.

The Henryetta squad was also at home on Tuesday, hosting the Warner Lady Eagles.

In Monday’s opener against Checotah, the Lady Knights opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first with an RBI sacrifice fly by Avery Miller.

Checotah pushed across its lone run in the top of the second to knot the score at 1-1, while Henryetta regained the lead at 2-1 with a run in the home half of the inning.

The Lady Knights produced three runs in the last of the third for a 5-1 advantage, then tallied three in the fifth for an 8-1 lead after five innings of action.

The Henryetta squad put the finishing touches on the run-rule win with an RBI single by Shelby Kilhoffer in the home half of the sixth, giving the Lady Knights the 9-1 victory.

Kilhoffer added a solo home run in the third to finish 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, while McKayla Greenhaw (2 for 3, 2 singles) and Kinley Miller (2 for 3, single, double, 2 RBI) also recorded two hits in the season-opening win.

Other base hits for Henryetta against Checotah came on singles by Katelyn Dwiggins, Avery Miller, Brooklyn Baughman, Lexi Lollis, Winter Beaver, and Shannon Corkerin and a 2-run single by Skylar Morris.

Other baserunners in the opener were Dwiggins (RBI walk), Morris (error), Lollis (error), Jalynn Joslin (error, walk), Avery Miller (error), and Kassidy Lee (walk).

In the showdown with Okemah, the Lady Knights erupted for 11 runs in the home half of the first, then added six in the second for a 17-0 advantage.

Okemah broke up the shutout bid with four runs in the top of the third, scoring all four runs on a Grand Slam home run.

The visitors were unable to produce any more runs in the third to award the host Henryetta squad the 17-4, runrule, victory.

The Lady Knights finished with 15 hits in the 3-run contest, led by Jalynn Joslin (2 for 2, double, home run, 3 RBI), Brooklyn Baughman (2 for 2, double, home run, 3 RBI), McKayla Greenhaw (2 for 2, 2 singles, RBI), Kinley Miller (2 for 2, double, home run, 2 RBI), Lexi Lollis (2 for 2, single, double, 2 RBI), and Kassidy Lee (2 for 2, 2 singles, RBI) with two hits apiece.

Joslin got the scoring started with a solo home run in the first, while Kiney Miller’s roundtripper came on a 2-run blast in the 11-run first. Baughman’s home run was a solo blast that kicked off the 6-run second.

The final three hits for the Lady Knights came on a single by Shelby Kilhoffer, and RBI single by Jasmine Cantrell, and a 2-run single by Avery Miller.

Other baserunners against Okemah were Katelyn Dwiggins (walk), Avery Miller (walk), Skylar Morris (2 walks), and Graci Lollis (RBI fielder’s choice). Madison Byroads drove in a run with a groundout to the second baseman in the second inning that made it a 15-0 contest.
