Five area high school basketball programs were scheduled to begin their Road to the State Championships this weekend, but Mother Nature had other plans.
The district basketball tournaments for Classes 2A-4A were to get underway today and Saturday at various locations across the state.
Due to snowfall and inclement weather that covered the state earlier this week, the OSSAA decided to push back the start dates for the district tournaments to Monday and Tuesday.
The five Okmulgee County basketball programs that were set to begin their postseason schedule this weekend were Okmulgee, Henryetta, Preston, Morris, and Beggs. Okmulgee and Henryetta will begin postseason play on the road, while Preston, Morris, and Beggs will open the playoffs at home.
Teams in districts 1, 2, 5, and 6 will play Monday evening, while teams in districts 3, 4, 7, and 8 will play Tuesday evening. The girls games will tip off at 6 p.m. followed by the boys contests at 8 p.m. All teams in the district tournaments will advance to their respective regional tournament Thursday-Saturday.
The Class 2A, Area II districts 1-4 will feature Pawhuska and Wyandotte in District 1, Dale and Haskell in District 2, Preston and Chouteau-Mazie in District 3, and Fairland and Colcord in District 4. The teams in Districts 1 and 4 will open regional tournament play Thursday at Pawhuska High School, while the teams in Districts 2 and 3 will begin the regional tournament Thursday at Dale High School. The remaining two days of regional tournament action will take place Friday and Saturday at Dale High School.
The Class 2A, Area II districts 5-8 will feature Oklahoma Union and Ketchum in District 5, Pocola and Hulbert in District 6, Nowata and Commerce in District 7, and Chelsea and Caney Valley in District 8.
