Mother Nature has once again put a hold on the high school wrestling regional tournaments.
The regional meets were originally scheduled to take place last Friday and Saturday and were pushed back to this Thursday and Friday due to freezing temperatures and ice on the roadways.
After the state was blanketed twice this week by snowfall, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association chose to once again postpone the start date a few more days.
The regional wrestling meets are now scheduled to take place Saturday and Monday.
The Class 3A tournaments will still take place at the designated sites with the East regional meet taking place at Blackwell High School, while the West regional will be held at Plainview High School.
Okmulgee County schools Okmulgee and Henryetta will be joined at the East Regional by Barnsdall, Berryhill, Blackwell, Cascia Hall, Cashion, Chandler, Daniel Webster, Hennessey, Holland Hall, Hulbert, Inola, Jay, Lincoln Christian, Locust Grove, Metro Christian, Morrison, Newkirk, Oklahoma Christian School, Pawhuska, Pawnee, Perry, Sperry, Tonkawa, Victory Christian, Vian, and Watonga.
The Morris Eagle wrestling squad will compete at the West Regional and will be joined by Anadarko, Bethel, Bridge Creek, Checotah, Comanche, Community Christian, Cordell, Crossings Christian, Davis, Geary, Hinton, Hobart, Lexington, Little Axe, Mangum, Marlow, McLoud, Mill Creek, Pauls Valley, Perkins-Tryon, Plainview, Prague, Salina, Sulphur, Temple, Vinita, Warner, Wilburton.
The top five finishers in each weight class at each regional tournament will earn a spot in next weekend’s state wrestling championships at the State Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City.
Any wrestler finishing sixth at Regionals will get the chance to compete at the state meet if one of the Top 5 finishers are unable to compete due to injury or other circumstances. (Note: A sixth-place regional winner will not replace one of the top five (1-5) regional place-winners who fails to make weight at the first weigh-in of the state wrestling tournament.)
