We are currently in distance learning because of a large outbreak at the school. We have had over 20 cases and over 60 students and staff quarantine. We hated to move to distance learning but had no choice when over half of our staff was quarantined. After the Thanksgiving Break we had individuals return after unknowingly being exposed. We are making a few changes to try to avoid this situation when we return after Christmas. Please be patient as we work through the trials with this pandemic.
Our first priority is to keep your children safe, while providing in-person learning.
However, we recognize there are times when we must make adjustments. The following protocols will be in place when the Spring Semester starts.
1. Virtual learning will start again on January 4th.
2. We will return to in person learning on January 11th.
3. Mask will be required for all staff and students.
4. We will continue to follow the older CDC guidelines for quarantine at this time which are 10 days for a positive case, and 14 days for an exposure.
When we return in January, please notify the school of any exposure, monitor your child’s symptoms and keep them home if any symptoms are present.

As we turn our focus to the end of the year, without question, this semester, and this entire year of 2020, has presented challenges none of us ever thought we would face.
As school districts across the state establish their own metrics or thresholds for moving to distance learning or continuing with in-person learning, at Preston Public Schools, we gather information from multiple sources including the Centers for Disease Control, Okmulgee County Health Department, State Department of Education and from other districts across the state. Our Covid case numbers, as well as our staffing capacity, will continue to be the primary factors in our decisions moving forward.
Our high school students will begin the second semester in distance learning. Students in grades 9-12 will be in distance learning January 4-8.
A week of distance learning for grades 9-12 immediately following Christmas Break will hopefully reduce the expected rise in Covid cases.
We saw a huge rise in cases immediately following Thanksgiving and we expect to see a similar rise now.
It is our belief a week of distance learning will help buffer the expected rise of cases in January.
Beginning the week of January 11, all high school students will be placed on an alternating A-B Schedule.
Students will rotate on the days of the week they attend school. We will continue to be flexible and will make any changes as we continue to navigate through this most unusual school year.
We thank you for your support of our students and school. Together we will not only survive, but we will once again thrive.
