Fond memories of lifes ups and downs

Folks, here I go repeating myself, again!

Folks, here I go repeating myself, again!

However, I have been told that is totally acceptable at this advanced age. So hang in there and look forward to when you, too can say it over and over.

Ok, now what was I going to say? Oh yes, that I’ve had a good life and the good life continues, even now, even today.

I’ve enjoyed every phase of my life. I look back with fondest memories of my childhood and growing up on that old farm, back there in the hills of southeast Oklahoma.

And, I couldn’t help loving that man of mine! I will soon have been a widow for 25 years. No, I never wanted a replacement.

He was the love of my life and the father of my two delightful children. And those dear children gave me three delightful grandchildren. And, now I am a great grandma to five pretty little girls and two handsome little boys. And now you know.

I have been giving some thought to what I like and what I do not like.

The day is not long enough to tell all the things I like. I like lazy mornings. Did not have too many of those in my younger days.

I made a declaration to myself a while back, that I must be dressed and have the bed made before noon. However, that was cast aside when I reasoned, it was my rule and therefore I could break it!

I like Chrystal Springs Retirement Village, where the living is easy. It offers me comfort and community or solitude.

Management looks out for me, as well as, my caring neighbors.

No, there is not a nosey one in the bunch, except just me.

The word around here is don’t tell her anything. She’ll put it in the newspaper.

And, oh boy, I really like Buttermilk Pie!

Now, don’t snurl up your nose, just try it. Hold on while I stir up one and put it in the oven.

Now, for a few of my dislikes.

I don’t like tags in the neck of my shirts, they itch.

I don’t like dieting! Been trying to lose a pound or two or that 20 I have lost before.

I had rather be hit upside the head than eat another boiled egg.

Even raw, chopped frog’s liver on a bed of cooked turnips, is sounding mighty good!

I’m not overly fond of Daylight Savings. The sooner it gets dark, the sooner I can change into the old night clothes.

When my parents did that in their later years, I thought to myself, I will never do that!

Never say never, huh? One of my favorites is to read in bed until way past bedtime and sleep in. Oh, yeah!

These two fellers was working at the saw mill. The first one got too close to the saw and cut his ear off.

Well, it fell in the saw dust pit and he was down there tryin’ to find it.

The other feller said, “What’re you doin’ down there?”

First one said, “I cut my ear off an’ I’m a –lookin’ for it.”

The other feller jumped in the pit and said, “I’ll help you.”

So he got down on his hands and knees, looking and hollered, “Here it is, I done found it.”

The first feller took it and looked it over, then said, “Keep lookin’, mine had a pencil behind it!”
