Dewar Dragons are headed to their first state championship appearance in 13 years.
The Dragons dominated against longtime rivals Shattuck in their semifinal game and took the win 54-14.
“Who they are and what they’ve done, it just feels good to beat (Shattuck) like that and so convincingly,” head coach Josh Been said after the game. “I couldn’t be prouder of these guys.”
For the past two years, Shattuck has knocked Dewar out of the playoffs, but the Dragons with a stand-out team this year easily edged out the win.
Dewar scored first on a 58-yard run, but Shattuck answered with a TD run of their own. In the second quarter, Dewar jumped ahead with two TDs while Shattuck only scored one.
The second half of the game is when the Dragons really sealed their win.
They scored three TDs while keeping Shattuck scoreless.
“The difference between this team and any other team I’ve coached here: our offensive line is unbelieveably aggressive,” Been said. “We’ve never had anyone who believed in consistantly pushing people off the line, and our players Micah Cloud, Baylor Selby and Ryan Beel, they set the tone in games like that.”
The Dragons will travel to Alva Saturday at 2 p.m. for the championship game against Laverne, who also beat Shattuck in the district and has one loss.
