Beggs High School’s fast-pitch squad brought the heat to Okmulgee Tuesday, delivering tough back-to-back shutout losses to the Lady Bulldogs. Okmulgee struggled to land a solid hit against Beggs senior pitcher Kaci Phelps, which resulted in their second and third loss of the year, 22-0 and 15-0.
In the first contest of the night, the only Lady Bulldog to get a hit was Jade Whinery, who earned a base hit with a fly ball to second base. While the Lady Bulldogs were trying to acclimate to Phelps’ pitches, the Lady Demons were driving it in.
Beggs garnered an early uncontested lead in the first inning. Base hits paired with doubles from Caylee York and Kaylee Hutton led the Lady Demons to a 10-0 advantage in the top of the inning. Beggs leadoff hitter Freedom Hicks earned the first base hit of the night with a ground ball to shortstop, while Hannah Padgett and Kaci Phelps loaded the bases with singles of their own.
The Lady Demons had the bases loaded when heavy hitter York stepped up to the plate. She landed a fly ball double out to right field to get two runners home, 2-0. Hutton also delivered two more runs with a line drive double to center field, clearing a path for courtesy runner Morgan Busby and York to home plate, 4-0.
The Lady Demons success didn’t stop there with Beggs left fielder Brooklyn Angielski scoring a base hit RBI to put her team up 5-0.
After watching their opponents build up a five-run lead, the Lady Bulldogs got the first out of the inning. Beggs senior Haileigh Mills singled on a ground ball to Okmulgee third baseman Mariya Tecumseh, who tagged Beggs catcher Joely Speer out at third. Two Lady Demons were still on base when Hicks hit a two RBI double, earning a 7-0 advantage for Beggs. Padgett would then triple on a fly ball to left field where Okmulgee freshman left fielder Natori Yates attempted to close off the Lady Demons. However, Beggs got two runners across home plate, 9-0, while Padgett waited on third base. A wild pitch from Okmulgee pitcher Bailey McElroy allowed Padgett to score, putting the Lady Demons ahead 10-0.
Yates and Whinery worked hard to get two outs in order to stop the Lady Demons scoring tear. The freshman left fielder caught a fly ball, while Whinery caught a ground out to end the top of the first inning.
In the bottom of the first, the Lady Bulldogs tried to land a hit over Phelps, but ended up having two batters strikeout. Whinery was the only one to land a hit with a fly ball to second base. Poised on first, Whinery would be left on with a ground out and a strikeout leaving the Lady Bulldogs behind 10-0 in the first inning.
The Lady Demons went on an eightrun scoring barrage in the top of the second inning, almost doubling their lead.
A base hit and a hit by pitch put two Lady Demons on base, Angielski and Mills. However, Okmulgee senior center fielder Mercedes Cosby stopped the Lady Demons advancement in its tracks. She caught a fly out to center field, leaving Angielski at second and Mills at first base.
The Lady Demons would break through later on with three RBI singles from Speer, Hicks and Hutton. York would also earn another big hit with a two RBI double. A wild pitch and a walk provided the Lady Demons the opportunity they needed to earn an 18-0 lead before the Lady Bulldogs caught Mills out at third.
Okmulgee now was behind Beggs 18-0 in the bottom of the second. After Whinery’s base hit success, the Lady Bulldogs struggled at the plate. Okmulgee earned three consecutive outs, including two strikeouts, that left them with an 18-run deficit.
Beggs delivered the final blow in the top of the third inning with four runs. Hitting the trifecta of triples, Hutton, Speer and Emma Mason all landed back-to-back RBI triples that boosted the Lady Demons to a 21-0 lead. A RBI single from Mills garnered the Lady Demons a 22-0 victory.
The second game of the night was also a tough shutout loss for the Lady Bulldogs, who suffered a 15-0 loss to the Henryetta Lady Knights on Monday.
It was a second-inning scoring streak from the Lady Demons that determined the 15-0 win during the second game of the night on Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs had found some success with Cosby, Yates and Tecumseh all earning hits against Phelps.
However, despite ramping up their offense, the Lady Bulldogs allowed the Lady Demons too many big hits, including a two RBI home run from Busby. York and Padgett would also step in with RBI triples, while Busby and Hicks also had RBI doubles.
By the top of the third inning, the Lady Bulldogs were trailing 15-0. After some base hit success from Cosby in the first inning, the Lady Bulldogs hit into two groundouts and also had one batter strikeout, leaving them with a third shutout defeat.
