The Okmulgee Quarterback Club will be hosting the 1st Annual Bulldog Rummage Sale today and Saturday, July 11 at the Armory Gym, located behind Brock Gym, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days of the event. Community members have been donating items from furniture to clothes for the event throughout May, June and July, preparing for the two-day event.
“I love garage sales,” Okmulgee Quarterback Club President Jennifer Foster said. “To be honest with you, I love garage sales and it does bring some money in. Everybody always has stuff that they want to get rid of and they don’t know what to do with it. I have people that have said, ‘We don’t have enough for a garage sale but I can’t deal with this anymore.’ We have a lot of junk, but one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.”
The Rummage Sale will have a variety of different items that have been donated from citizens.
Vendors will also be setup at the event. According to Foster, vendors can either pay a $25 registration fee for a day or $40 for both days.
“They can setup a table, a tent, whatever they want,” Foster said. “Sale whatever they want within reason. No weapons or medical marijuana stuff. So, they can do that and they can keep all of their proceeds. We just ask they pay that admission.”
One vendor has already committed to attend the event, DiVinyl Touch, who will be donating 10 percent of her proceeds to the Bulldog Quarterback Club Booster.
Along with the Rummage Sale, Foster and the Quarterback Club will also be hosting a 50/50 raffle. Tickets will be $1 and the winner will receive half of the pot, according to Foster.
“So, we are going to have that type of drawing,” Foster said. “We just have a different couple of things. Of course, we are going to have a little helmet donation jar. If someone doesn’t find anything but they want to donate, they can just throw it in there.”
Foster is hopeful that the funds raised for the event will help the Bulldogs obtain new gear for the upcoming 2020 fall season.
“We are going to help Coach Scott with whatever he needs,” Foster said. “He did buy 30 shoulder pads, so, right now, we are working on helmets. They are main thing.”
The funds will also help the football team with various other equipment needs throughout the season. It will also help the Quarterback Club to provide food and support to the team.
“We are, as far as the booster, are in need of help, just to help feed the boys,” Foster said. “But right now we want to focus on their safety first and I’m going to reach out to churches, maybe that can be something.”
Foster is also seeking help from community organizations and churches might be able to help provide food to the team before games. According to Foster, the Quarterback Club is looking for sponsors for pre-game dinners.
“We have junior high and high school,” Foster said. “They can get with me and I can give them a schedules and I can tell them what days we have available and left. So, that’s something I’m going to be working on after we finish this.”
The Quarterback Club is not only hosting a fundraiser but is finding ways to also give back to the community. According to Foster, the Rummage Sale will be a drop-off location for suitcases that will be donated to local foster care families and organizations. Foster has already acquired a few suitcases that she plans to donate after the event.
