Brad Nichols has been appointed to the Okmulgee County Fair Board to fill the position recently vacated by Dustin White during the Monday meeting of the Okmulgee County Commissioners.
The appointment was brought up during last week’s meeting, but was tabled until other possible candidates could be approached. However, as no other candidates were interested, Nichols was appointed and has taken over the position. Agenda items approved by the commissioners were:
• Blanket Purchase Orders - District 3 to AutoZone in the amount of $300 and Unifirst Holdings for uniforms as needed for $700;
• Award of Bid #24 for road materials for a six-month period;
• Lease Purchase for equipment for Beggs Fire Department;
• Renewal of the Worker’s Compensation Insurance for Okmulgee County for the 2020-2021 fiscal year for a total amount of $256,354;
• Juvenile Detention Agreements for the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year, a yearly agreement between Okmulgee County and LeFlore, Cleveland and Pottawatomie counties;
• Monthly appropriations.
Two items were tabled for more discussion before a decision could be reached including:
• Action concerning wireless internet service in the courthouse. Undersheriff Fred McGuire was at the commissioners meeting discussing the need for another wireless internet line at the courthouse. He stated since the COVID-19 shutdowns have forced many hearings online, the current setup is getting overtaxed. Since there is a good chance these online hearings will be happening into the future, McGuire wants to update the system to handle the higher workload;
• Action concerning replacement of flooring in a first-floor office.
