The Oklahoma Coaches Association (OCA) announced the cancelation of the summer All-State games and coaches clinic, which first began in 1935, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the OCA Board of Directors, the risk associated with holding both events was too high. Around 4,500 were expected to attend the annual convention, concerns over health and the ramifications that could be present were leading causes for the cancelation.
Games were scheduled to take place in Tulsa July 25-31 and would have included tennis, golf, football, basketball, swimming, volleyball and wrestling.
Okmulgee County had three athletes picked for All-State honors this year in a variety of different sports including tennis, football and cheer.
Tana Korb, of Preston, was named to the 2020 All-State Cheer team, Matthew Pierce, of Beggs, was named to the 2020 All-State East Defense team and Keaton Lollis, of Henryetta, was selected for the 2020 All-State East Tennis team.
OCA will contact athletes, coaches and others that were set to participate in the 2020 activities and events regarding the cancelation. All-State rings will be awarded to those who earned All-State honors.
Other events the OCA canceled due to COVID-19 include the 2020 OCA Hall of Fame Banquet. Inductees from 2020 will be honored and recognized in 2021, according to the OCA.
