American Tortoise Rescue was started in 1990 to protect all tortoise and turtle species especially those on the live “wet” food markets.
Tortoises live on the land and turtles live in the water most of the time, yet both are becoming endangered because of smuggling, exotic live food markets in the U.S. and internationally, climate change, etc. to the point some predict their extinction within the next 50 years.
American author of children’s books, Margaret Wise Brown was born May 23, 1910 in Brooklyn, New York the middle child of a well to do family in an unhappy marriage.
Brown attended boarding school in Switzerland and Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia with a couple other schools between.
She worked as a teacher when she began writing and published her first book, “When the Wind Blew” in 1937.
During her short time of writing she authored more than 100 books.
Brown died November 13, 1952 at the young age of 42 following a surgery while in Nice, France on a book tour.
