Even though the calendar says it is spring, there is not evidence of such, today.
To anyone who has spent the long days of winter, temperatures barely above freezing, the first sight of spring is a major event.
To appreciate the first hint of spring, you must have waited for it, even daydreamed about it and done a fair amount of enduring.
Again, as I do every spring, I vow to myself to be wide-eyed and not miss a thing as spring awakens.
I want to walk again among the dainty wild violets and lemon yellow forsythias.
Each spring, I wish I could visit some of the places I have heard about, where there are yellow daffodils by the thousands!
I am told they are planted by the lakeside and beneath the trees and covering the hillsides.
I have an account in writing and pictures about an elderly lady’s many daffodils.
The person describing it said it looked as though someone had taken a vat of gold and poured it over the mountain and its surrounding slopes.
She went on to say, “they were planted in majestic, swirling patterns, great ribbons and swaths of deep orange, creamy white, lemon yellow, salmon pink and saffron and butter yellow.”
One lone lady planted 50,000 bulbs! Imagine that!
She started planting in 1958. The daffodil lady went on to say herself - “I planted them one at a time, with two hands, two feet and one brain.” I see she has a sense of humor, as well.
I see she has a sense of humor, as well.
Think of it! For 40 years she planted one bulb at a time, to bring her vision of beauty and joy to her mountainside.
Planting one bulb at a time, year after year, this unknown woman had forever changed the world in which she lived.
One bulb and one day at a time, she created something of extraordinary magnificence, beauty and inspiration. She taught us a life lesson, as well.
She taught us a life lesson, as well.
We move toward our goals and desires, we chase our dreams - one step at a time - maybe only baby steps at a time. Then, hopefully one day, when we multiply tiny pieces of time with small increments of daily effort, we too, find we have accomplished magnificent things!
May it be so!
Thinking about this funny - realized I have done that - been there…..
A group of ladies was finishing up their Bible study and asked one of the ladies to end the meeting with a prayer.
So, in her way, soft lady-like voice, she prayed.
The others kept peeping up, to see if her lips were still moving.
Finally, when they heard a faint “amen” one of the ladies said, “I hope God had His hearing aid in!”
Whoo-EE!!
