“Do Not Be Afraid or Discouraged” by Mary Morris
“May the Lord give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the Lord your God. Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the Lord gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. (1 Chronicles 22:12-13)”
I’m not a commander of Israel. Are you? I thought not. But do we believe that these words are just as true now for us as they were in the times of of the kings?
We’re still facing removal from our loved ones, from our friends, from our churches (which, by the way, are groups and not buildings), and from everything we once considered part of our normal way of life. Is this the way God intended us to live? Of course not! Is this an attack by Satan? It could be, or it could just as easily be something we’ve brought on ourselves through accident or our great hubris. Debating the whys and wherefores doesn’t change its existence: C-19 is here and we must learn to deal with its consequences.
That means we have been given yet another chance by an unseen but all-knowing God whose limitless grace allows for us to reach out to Him when at last we realize we just don’t have the wherewithal to do this alone. We have exhausted ourselves and our resources to fill all this extra time given us. Have we turned to the One who set up this opportunity for us?
Yes, it is indeed an opportunity. Can you even remember when last you read a good book? No, not “People” magazine or “USA Today” -- a real, honest-to-goodness book, in whatever genre you like. And board games -- were you about nine when last you played Clue or Life? How long has it been (if ever) that the entire family was engaged in preparing for a meal -- setting the table, making the salad, cooking, cleaning up (kids’ all-time favorite)? Have you followed each and every previous day of your child’s education as closely as you are now? Have you truly worshipped together as you have the chance to now?
That’s okay. I’ll give you time to think about it... We are living a second chance life. We can grow closer together than ever we’ve been before today. If we do this right, we’re sure to find that, in the end, we’re much better, stronger -- and wiser! -- for it.
So continue to uphold God’s Law. Face each day knowing God’s plan is in place, that you are a part of it, and that His strength is yours. “Do not be afraid or discouraged.”

The Resurrection of Jesus, Easter Sunday
This Sunday all believers in the world celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Lord and God who suffered, died and Rose from the dead as God alone. He told people when he still lived among them.
Easter is a Big Deal, a very Big Deal! Every one of the four Gospels provides an account of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which makes perfect sense because the bodily resurrections of Jesus Christ has always been the foundation of the Christian Faith from the very beginning. It is an ancient tradition, based on the evidence of scripture and on the writings of the early Church, that Jesus celebrated the Last Supper on a Thursday, died on Friday, and rose form the dead on a Sunday. Thus, today’s Gospel tells us that Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week (Jn. 20:1). Within about a hundred years of Jesus’s Resurrection, Christians were celebrating the great Easter Vigil, beginning after dark on Holy Saturday and continuing until dawn on Easter morning.
During this vigil, Christians heard salvation history through scripture readings, celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus, and looked forward to his return. At the vigil, men and women who had gone through years of instruction were baptized and received First Communion. Without his Death and Rising to new life Je sus would have been merely another Jewish teacher and failed messiah. His teachings would be just a code of ethics and our worship in vain. We celebrate the Resurrection for fifty days, and for the rest of the year every Sunday is a kind of “Mini-Easter”. Easter is the culmination of Christ’s life, death, and Resurrection that we celebrate with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth (1 Corinthians 5:8). If you have not been to church for a while, we invite you to come back again and know that you are welcome in the community of faith.
Indeed, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior is our hope the center of our Christian Life on our journey of life.
May the Resurrection of Jesus help us to put our trust in Him who must suffer, die, but rose from the dead as the power of God as he told us when he was with his Apostles and people, so that we follow Him in this life faithfully, and one day when He calls each of us to meet Him, we are going to enjoy eternal life with Him and all Saints in His Kingdom forever.
Happy Easter to each one of you. Enjoy today with Jesus and others.
