Recently I went for my annual checkup with the eye doctor.
After close examination, he said my eyes had not changed but very little and there was no need for new glasses.
Then – I complained to him how my eyes water – especially after prolonged reading.
Immediately, he said that could be from dry eyes and some drops would take care of that problem.
I have yet to use those drops since almost every day – anymore – the eyes get a good washing and cleansing the natural way.
Tears being so close to the surface – must be a weakness to go along with white/silver hair.
So, that wee bottle of artificial tears stays there on the night stand – along with a stack of books I plan to read, my butterscotch hard candies and the old clock with the lighted dial.
The emotions seem to lay close to the surface when one is older – OK – when one is old! One can cry easily over anything and yes, everything.
Around here at the retirement village – we avoid sad stories, lest the tears show up unexpectedly. However, we do tell funnies and try to laugh – a lot!
We all laughed just today about the man who said he felt so old – he didn’t dare buy a green banana!
Then there is this one lady that talks too much and too much about dying.
The other day she was reading her large print Bible and asked us not to bother her as she was “crammin’ for her finals”!
Oh, glory hallelujah and amen!!
