Unable to rally their troops, the Lady Knights ended a twogame winning streak and lost to the Lady Wolverines 55-47. The Lady Knights are now 3-12 for the season.
The Lady Knights were unstoppable in the paint in the first quarter. Fowler scored a pair of 2’s and completed three of four free throws. Hamric, sophomore Katelyn Dwiggins and senior Autumn Blackbear went on a 2-point tear that earned the Lady Knights a 13-12 advantage.
The Lady Wolverines only allowed the Lady Knights a small lead in the first quarter and a single-digit scoring slump in the second quarter changed the tone of the game. Fowler struggled to make it to the basket and only completed a 3-pointer. Dwiggins and Blackbear were the only other Lady Knights to sink a basket. Earning eight points in the second quarter, the Lady Knights didn’t tap into their offensive energy, while the Lady Wolverines revived theirs. The Lady Wolverines scored five 2’s and a 3-pointer to overtake the Lady Knights’ lead 27-21.
Hamric and Blackbear led an 11- point revival in the third quarter. Making it to the basket, Hamric scored two buckets in the paint and the Lady Knights had Blackbear to back her up from the 3-point line. Blackbear scored her first 3-pointer and also completed a 2-pointer. Fowler also chimed in with a bucket; however, the Lady Wolverines didn’t relinquish their six-point lead. Holdenville went on an 11-point tear that cemented their 38-32 lead in the fourth quarter.
Both teams were desperate to gain control of the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. The Lady Knights were fighting to regain control of their first-quarter lead and, in the process, sent the Lady Wolverines to the line for six of 10 free throws. Allowing their opponents six extra points, the Lady Knights tried to tap into the same shooting power they had in the first half. Fowler and Hamric were the only Lady Knights to score multiple field goals. Both senior Lady Knights earned a pair of 2’s and were sent to the line for five of eight free throw shots. The Lady Knights busted out 16 points, but couldn’t usurp the Lady Wolverines six-point lead.
Despite Hamric and Fowler’s last minute scoring streak, the Lady Knights fell to the Lady Wolverines 55-47.
Fowler reached double figures with a total of 19 points, scoring five 2’s and one 3-pointer. She also completed 60 percent of her free throws. Hamric was close behind with 13 points, including five 2’s and three of four free throws.
The Lady Knights are scheduled to play the Preston Lady Pirates on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Preston is currently 9-12 for the season and has previously met the Lady Knights on the court. The Lady Pirates have strong 2- point shooters in senior Abbie Long and sophomore Mya Tiger, who led to their 54-40 win over the Lady Knights earlier in the season.
