Lady Knights earn 48-point win over Schulter

The Henryetta Lady Knights defeated the Schulter Lady Bulldogs in the consolation semi-finals Wednesday afternoon at the Okmulgee County Tournament. Bouncing back from a loss to Beggs, the Lady Knights

The Henryetta Lady Knights defeated the Schulter Lady Bulldogs in the consolation semi-finals Wednesday afternoon at the Okmulgee County Tournament. Bouncing back from a loss to Beggs, the Lady Knights had the shooting power of senior Kim Fowler and sophomore Katelyn Dwiggins to secure them a 64-16 victory over the Lady Bulldogs, who were defeated by the Morris Lady Eagles in round one. Dwiggins and Fowler both scored a total of 12 points for the Lady Knights, earning six 2’s against the Lady Bulldogs, who depended almost entirely on Shawna Wilson to garner points. Wilson scored a pair of 2’s and three 3’s during the contest.

The Lady Knights locked down the Lady Bulldogs in the first quarter. Wilson was able to score one three-pointer but the Lady Bulldogs struggled to connect with the basket again throughout the rest of the quarter. Earning their highest quarter of the game, the Lady Knights busted out a 20-point scoring streak that immediately put them ahead of the Lady Bulldogs. Dwiggins scored three 2’s, while Fowler and senior Kaylie Hamric both scored a pair of 2’s. Henryetta freshman Lavenda Billy also scored a two-pointer and helped garner the Lady Knights a 20-3 advantage.

Keeping up their momentum in the second quarter, Fowler scored another pair of 2’s that kickstarted a 12-point scoring barrage. The Lady Knights had a plethora of two-point shooters to turn to, including Hamric, Billy, senior Emily Smith and Dwiggins. Each Lady Knight made it to the basket for a twopointer and helped shut down the Lady Bulldogs’ offense. Wilson scored her second three-pointer, ending the Lady Bulldogs’ scoring for the half. Thee Lady Knights maintained a steady lead in the second half, expanding their 32-6 lead in the third quarter. Fowler and Dwiggins once again busted out a pair of 2’s each, which led the Lady Knights to their third consecutive double digit scoring barrage. The Lady Knights began sneaking in three-point attacks with Katelyn Williamson and Billy each earning a three-pointer. Hamric and Smith also chimed in with two-pointers, sealing the Lady Knights 50-11 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs added just five points to the scoreboard in the third quarter and the fourth quarter saw the same small scoring streak. Malaki Hedrick scored a three-pointer in the third quarter, while Wilson scored her third three-pointer and completed her second two-pointer.

With the Lady Bulldogs adding five points to the scoreboard, the Lady Knights claimed a 48-point victory in the fourth quarter. Williamson busted out a pair of 3’s and freshman Thaliya Pankey earned a pair of 2’s. Strong showings from Williamson and Pankey along with two-pointers from Smith and Billy clinched the Lady Knights a 64-16 victory.

The Lady Knights are set to play in the consolation championship game tonight against the Dewar Lady Dragons, who defeated the Wilson Lady Tigers 76-23.
