After a one-point loss disrupted their winning streak, the Dewar Dragons overpowered the Watts Engineers and Hanna Dragons to improve their record to 7-4. Taking down the Engineers first in a 75-48 victory on Thursday, the Dragons carried over their success into Friday’s game and defeated the Hanna Dragons in a runaway 49-31 win.
Opening their two-game winning streak against the Watts Engineers, the Dragons garnered consecutive 20-point quarters in the first half. Dewar junior Joey Fowler, sophomore James Brison and freshman Tryton Mack boosted the Dragons’ offense and helped them garner a double digit lead in the first quarter. The Engineers scored seven points against the Dragons in the first quarter, while the Dragons led a 27-point scoring barrage. Fowler sunk a trio of three-pointers and made it to the basket for a two-pointer. Mack and Brison both contributed five points to the scoring streak, while Duke Arnett and Kalaem Carter both scored a bucket.
With a 27-7 lead in place, the Dragons busted out another double digit scoring streak in the second quarter, while the Engineers struggled to find their momentum. The Engineers broke their scoring slump with 11 points, but it wasn’t a match for the Dragons’ 25-point scoring streak. Mack continued his fight to the three-point line, earning both a two-point and a three-point basket. Brison also kept up his shooting abilities in the second quarter, earning a Dragons to pair of 2’s to bring the advantage.

intact until the fourth quarter was an easy feat for the Dragons. They obtained a 14-point third quarter with the help of Brison and sophomore Thomas Brownfield. Brison busted out three two-pointers, while Brownfield scored his second pair of 2’s. The Engineers returned for a single digit quarter that resulted in another extensive lead for the Dragons, 66-25.
The Dragons had sealed a 41-point lead going into the fourth quarter, and, despite a 23-point scoring streak from Watts, secured the first of two victories. Watts secured a 23-point boost that barely touched the Dragons’ 41-point advantage. Earning seven points with the help of Mack, Carter and Arnett, the Dragons earned a 75-48 win over the Engineers.
Coming off of their 27-point win, the Dragons’ rampage continued against the Hanna Dragons. The game started off slow with both teams struggling to find successful shots. Offensive rebounding was a key issue the Dragons faced in the first quarter and allowed the Hanna Dragons to gain more coverage under the basket. Fowler, Brison and Brownfield were the only Dragons to sink a basket, leading to a 9-6 deficit for the Dragons in the first quarter.
Hanna had similar troubles but managed to rely on Daniel Deere who sunk a pair of 3’s.
Facing a three-point Hanna lead in the second quarter, the Dragons revived their offense and garnered 16 points. Mack and Fowler made it to the basket for a total of seven points and also had help from Brison and junior Baylor Selby. Brownfield also chimed in with his second two-pointer and completed a free throw.
While the Dragons dominated the court, the Hanna Dragons scored one free throw, which resulted in a change of power. The Dragons took over the scoreboard 22-10 at the end of the half.
Brownfield kept the momentum going in the third quarter and led the Dragons to a 19-point scoring streak. He scored a pair of 2’s and made his first three-point shot, while Fowler assisted with a bucket and a three-pointer. Busting out another double digit scoring streak, the Dragons extended their lead and held the Hanna Dragons to 10 points, 41-20.
The Dragons had established a 21-point lead and, taking similar steps as they did against Watts, secured a victory in the fourth quarter. Free throws led to the Dragons victory with Hanna sending them to the line for four of eight free throw shots. Brison and Selby also contributed a two-pointer. Hanna answered with an 11-point boost with the help of Deere, who earned a trio of 2’s. However, the Dragons’ lead kept steady until the final buzzer. The Dragons took down Hanna in a 49-31 contest and improved their overall record to 7-4.
