The Wilson Tiger’s upward trend continued Tuesday night with a 30-point victory over the Hanna Dragons. After claiming two wins at the Graham-Dustin tournament, the Tigers extended their success with the help of junior Michael Conard and senior Malik Thompson. The two seasoned Tigers both broke into the double digits against the Dragons, helping lead their team to a 76-47 win. Conard scored a total of 15 points, while Malik garnered 11 points. Their latest victory improves the Tigers’ season record to 8-5.

Shutting down the Dragons’ offense early in the first quarter, the Tigers were free to dominate the court. The Dragons scored just eight points, while the Tigers had the shooting capabilities of senior Cobey Sellers and Conard behind them. Sellers scored two buckets on the Dragons and made it back for a three-point shot at the end of the quarter. Scoring a pair of 2’s, Conard assisted Sellers with the Tigers’ 14-point scoring streak. Junior Yahv Williams also made it to the basket for a two-pointer.

The Tigers acquired a 14-8 lead over the Dragons and a 19-point second quarter helped cement it at the end of the half. Conard and Thompson were at the helm of the scoring barrage. Both Tigers contributed major points to their double digit streak. Thompson, who had struggled to find an open shot in the first quarter, sunk four 2’s and a free throw shot for a total of nine points. Conard almost matched him with two 2’s, a three-pointer and a free throw for eight points. Wilson sophomore D’Angelo Hester completed the scoring with a two-pointer, bringing the Tigers to 33 points.

The Eagles only responded with three points, which allowed the Tigers to take a 33-11 lead at the end of the first half.

With a 22-point lead, the Tigers began to slip defensively and allowed Hanna to score two consecutive 18-point quarters in the second half. Despite the dip in defense, the Tigers busted out their highest scoring quarter, earning a total of 22 points in the third quarter. Wilson sophomore Logan Moore dominated from the free throw line and under the basket. He score a pair of 2’s and earned another two points from the free throw line. Both freshman Ryder Herring and Hester scored a two-point and a three-point basket, while Conard and Thompson each scored a two-pointer. With such a strong offensive show, the Tigers were able to keep their lead despite the Dragons’ 18-point scoring streak, 55-29.

Still ahead by 26 points, the Tigers went on another 21-point scoring barrage to seal their victory. Overpowering the Dragons’ scoring streak by one point, the Tigers garnered a 76-47 victory. The Tigers had a boost from the free throw line, scoring seven of 12 free throw shots.

Wilson is scheduled to travel to take on the Midway Chargers tonight at 8:30 p.m.
