Lady Tigers suffer consecutive losses

The Lady Tigers suffered a tough double digit defeat to the Maud Lady Tigers in the first round of games at the Graham-Dustin Tournament on Thursday. A small scoring quarter

The Lady Tigers suffered a tough double digit defeat to the Maud Lady Tigers in the first round of games at the Graham-Dustin Tournament on Thursday. A small scoring quarter left the Lady Tigers contending with a 20-7 deficit in the first quarter against Maud. Despite reviving ttheir offense in the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers fell 45-29. Unable to regain their momentum, the Lady Tigers ended the tournament with a 10-point loss to the Graham-Dustin Lady Chieftains, 34-24.

The Lady Tigers couldn’t match the offensive power of the Maud Lady Tigers in the first quarter. Muad more than doubled the Lady Tigers’ score with a 20-point scoring streak, 20-7.

Facing a 13-point deficit, the Lady Tigers failed to rally their offense in the second quarter. Banard and Sieriah were the only returners to score against the Lady Tigers. Britney Hartley chimed in with her first two-pointer, while Banard busted out her second three-pointer. Sieriah made her way to the basket for a layup, completing another seven points for Wilson.

With just a seven-point second quarter, the Lady Tigers suffered another Maud lead at the end of the half. Maud scored 13 points to take a 33-14 lead.

The Lady Tigers had a 19-point uphill battle ahead of them in the second half. A five-point third quarter cemented their opponents’ lead with Marah Shanks and Banard making up most of the offensive efforts for the Lady Tigers. The Maud Lady Tigers added two points to their lead in the third quarter, 35-19.

After three single digit quarters, the Lady Tigers revived their offense in the fourth quarter for a 10-point streak. Hartley was at the helm of the barrage, scoring a pair of 2’s. She was assisted by Samariah and Banard, both of which completed a three-point shot. Though the Lady Tigers added 10 points to their score, Maud secured a 10-point boost for a 45-29 win.

Going up against the Graham-Dustin Lady Chieftains in the consolation bracket, the Lady Tigers faced their second loss at the tournament. Though they were able to stick close to the Lady Chieftains, the Lady Tigers were knocked out of the tournament with a 34-24 loss.

The Lady Tigers were scheduled to take on the Hanna Dragons on Tuesday, Jan. 14 on the road. Hanna is currently 6-7 and faced a recent loss at the Dee Foster Invitational against Wapanucka, 38-25.
