Just over 70-percent of Henryetta Public School District voters approved a $980,000 Transportation Bond Election in September.
The approval presented school officials with the ability to upgrade their existing and much-aged fleet, providing safer, more reliable transportation and greatly reducing maintenance costs.
Following the Nov. 11 regular school board meeting Superintendent Dwayne Noble placed an order for route buses, an activity bus, a handicap bus and other transportation.
Several brand new route buses were delivered to the campus yesterday-Jan. 13 as school bus drivers, officials and staff toured each one.
Supt. Noble said once the drivers and staff learn how to operate the on-board safety equipment (cameras), the buses will be utilized.
Along with “Henryetta Public Schools” printed on the side of the bus, “Go Knights” can be seen near the top as well as tinted windows.
The new buses were a much-welcomed sight not only for school staff and officials, but for students who anxiously await being able to travel more safely, parents and district voters alike.
Supt. Noble said the activity and handicap buses are still receiving upgrades and are expected to be delivered soon.
“Our existing bus fleet was aging,” Supt. Noble said. “The average age of our buses is 16 years and they were in serious need of replacement. Over the past four years, we have spent over $130,000 on repairs and maintenance alone for the buses.”
