Creek citizens will go to the polls this Saturday, Dec. 14 to decide on a new Principal Chief. Five National Council seats are also on the ballot. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Candidates David Hill and Bim Stephen Bruner are vying for the nation’s Principal Chief post. Chief James Floyd did not seek reelection. Early voting for the MCN 2019 General Election was held Wednesday and Thursday at various locations. Due to the MCN Supreme Court having thrown out the original primary election results because of absentee ballot security concerns, Hill and Bruner finished first and second in the Nov. 2 Primary. In the MCN National Council election, Carmin Tecumseh-Williams and William Lowe will face off in the Okmulgee District. In the Creek District, Joe Hicks and Dean Hughes will appear in the run-off, while Laura Harjo-King will be in the run-off with Mary Crawford in the Muskogee District. Anna Marshall and Rufus Scott are on the ballot for the Tukvpvtce District. Charles McHenry and Dierdra Soap are the candidates in the Wagoner District. A few representatives from the Carter Center will be on hand to observe in-person voting on election day, as well as ballot counting and the procedures used to collect and verify absentee ballots.
