The Lady Dragons took down the Midway Lady Chargers in their first home game of the season. Dewar had no troubles in getting their offense off the ground against the Lady Chargers, leading to a 42-37 victory that improved their overall season record to 3-1.
Small scoring quarters from the Lady Chargers allowed the Lady Dragons to take an early lead in the first half. Senior Sklyer Randall was at the helm of the first-quarter scoring barrage for the Lady Dragons. While the Lady Chargers struggled to post up for four points, Randall secured three 2s and a pair of 3s that boosted the Lady Dragons to a 15-4 lead. Sophomore Gracie Britt also chimed in with a basket of her own, helping the Lady Dragons to an 11-point lead.
Losing no momentum between quarters, Randall once again established a double digit quarter. She fought her way to the basket for two buckets and completed her third three-pointer. The Lady Chargers also assisted the Lady Dragons in extending their lead, sending senior Noelani Corbin and Randall to the foul line. Both players were able to obtain four extra points, leading the Lady Dragons to a 13-point quarter. The Lady Chargers tried to bounce back in the second quarter. They led a tough campaign under the basket that allowed them to break into the double digits, 28-14.
The Lady Dragons had established a 14-point lead at the end of the half, but faced offensive struggles in the third. Randall and Corbin were the only Lady Dragons that were able to make it to the basket, leading to a small six-point quarter for the Lady Dragons. However, their opponents were still attempting to pull themselves out of a similar scoring hiatus. Only earning eight points in the third quarter, the Lady Chargers kept the Lady Dragons’ lead intact, 34-22.
Unable to truly pull themselves out of their scoring slump, the Lady Dragons earned another small scoring quarter. Britt was the sole shooter for the Lady Dragons, earning a trio of two-pointers and completing two free throws. The Lady Dragons extended their lead by just eight points, while the Lady Chargers busted out 15 points. Midway’s Diamond Stafford tried to make a comeback, making a run to the basket for three 2s, while Aspen Collens scored two 3s and two free throws.
Though the Lady Dragons lost control of the court in the second half, they were able to secure a 42-37 victory.
