Lady Knights fall in battle with Kellyville

Henryetta’s varsity girls’ squad fell in their second loss of the season, facing a tough 63-35 loss at the hands of the Kellyville Lady Ponies. Currently ranked 8th in Class

Henryetta’s varsity girls’ squad fell in their second loss of the season, facing a tough 63-35 loss at the hands of the Kellyville Lady Ponies. Currently ranked 8th in Class 3A, the Lady Ponies brought the heat to Henryetta Friday night. The Lady Knights lost control of the court in the first quarter with the Lady Ponies obtaining a 20-8 lead. Unable to match their opponents’ scoring abilities, the Lady Knights struggled to overturn the Lady Ponies’ lead for the rest of the game.

Henryetta senior Kim Fowler tried to keep the Lady Knights’ offense active in the first quarter. The Lady Knights scored just eight points in the first quarter with Fowler scoring a three-pointer and a basket. Sophomore Katelyn Dwiggins also contributed to the eight-point quarter with a three-point shot, but the Lady Ponies turned to Jade Upshaw, who scored a pair of 3s and two buckets.

The Lady Ponies held onto their 20-8 lead in the second quarter with another high octane offensive onslaught. Obtaining a total of 18 points, Kellyville extended its hold on the scoreboard to 38 points. The Lady Knights trended upwards in the second quarter with senior Kaylie Hamric earning five points for Henryetta. She completed her first two baskets of the night against the Lady Ponies, but it wasn’t enough to match her opponents’ double digit lead.

Facing a 38-19 deficit, the Lady Knights struggled to find the same momentum they had in the second quarter. Senior Autumn Blackbear and Hamric were the only ones to fight their way to the basket. Hamric scored a three-pointer that helped the Lady Knights reach a total of nine points. However, the Lady Ponies led another 18-point quarter that solidified their lead even more.

The Lady Knights had fallen behind the Lady Ponies 56-28 and, despite Fowler, were slow to get to the basket. Fowler broke through to score five points, while Hamric made it to the basket for her third two-pointer. Earning a total of seven points, the Lady Knights had obtained their lowest scoring quarter of the game, while the Lady Ponies cemented their 63-35 win.

Fowler led her team in points, garnering a total of 13 against the Lady Ponies. She made it to the basket for two 2s, a pair of 3s and three free throws.

Hamric was close behind with a total of 10 points, completing three 2s and one three pointer.
