Senior McKenzie James and Destiny Jordan led a tough campaign under the basket and from the three-point line Tuesday night. The two seniors posted up for double digit total points against the Wewoka Warriors, clenching the Lady Bulldogs their first win of the season, 57-37. It was a big 16-point burst in the second quarter that led the Lady Bulldogs to their first extensive lead, which they were able to hold onto until the final buzzer.
Coming in hot right off the bench, Jordan completed a three-pointer to put the Lady Bulldogs on the scoreboard. She would make her way back to the basket to extend the Lady Bulldogs’ efforts with two 2s. Wewoka also sent Tori and McKenzie James to the foul line where they were able to earn three extra points for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Warriors were mostly shutout from the basket, getting on the scoreboard from free throws at first. They eventually broke through for a pair of 2s, but the Lady Bulldogs had already established thier lead. McKenzie made a last battle to the basket, earning a two-pointer before the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs had built up a 12-7 lead over the Lady Warriors and a 16-point quarter allowed them to take an even more substantive lead. McKenzie and Jordan once again were at the helm of the Lady Bulldogs scoring barrage. While the two senior Lady Bulldogs made it to the basket, their teammates were also keeping the Lady Warriors from making any powerful offensive moves. The Lady Warriors had another seven-point quarter, which left them struggling against a dominant Okmulgee offense.
McKenzie had scored a pair of 3s but was also able to fight her way to the backboard for a layup. While fighting to complete her second two-pointer of the night, Wewoka sent McKenzie to the foul line and allowed her to extend the Lady Bulldogs’ lead by two points. Jordan also chimed in with two layups, which put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 28-14 at the end of the first half.
The Lady Bulldogs did not relent from their offensive onslaught when they returned in the third quarter, but the Lady Warriors were finally able to match their fast-paced opponents. Arariya Shaw broke through Wewoka’s scoring draught to score three 2s, while her teammate Mariah Sipes Louie posted up for a total of five points. Though the Lady Warriors had snapped their slow offense into shape, the Lady Bulldogs also extended their lead with an 11-point quarter. All of the Lady Bulldogs’ starters made it to the basket for a two-point shot, while Tori scored her first three-pointer of the game.
Up 39-25, the Lady Bulldogs kept their 14-point lead intact and sealed their victory in the fourth quarter. A big six-point scoring streak from senior Angel Collins contributed to the Lady Bulldogs’ 18-point quarter. The Lady Warriors were able to answer with just one layup, providing the Lady Bulldogs their first win of the season, 57-27.
