An Okmulgee man will serve five years in federal prison following his sentencing in court last week.
On Friday, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that 48-year- old Johnny Scott Sadler was sentenced to 60 months of imprisonment and five years of supervised release.
He was charged with Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.
Charges arose from an investigation by the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
On Feb. 23, Sadler was accused of possessing a Bushmaster Firearms Inc., Model BACR, Multi caliber semi-automatic rifle (.223 caliber barrel), a firearm, in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
“Firearms are tools of the trade for people involved in the business of drug dealing because violence is a characteristic of drug trafficking organizations,” United States Attorney Brian J. Kuester said. “Every time we are able to investigate and prosecute a person who has used a weapon to further a drug trafficking crime, we have lessened the likelihood of violent crime in a community. That is one of DOJ’s top priorities.”
Assistant United States Attorney Shannon Henson represented the United States, while Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearing.
