The Henryetta Knights fell in battle Thursday, experiencing their first loss after a mid-season comeback. Falling to the Jones Longhorns, the Knights were unable to get their offense moving against the number one seeded team in District 2A-2, losing in a devastating 61-0 shutout loss.

Jones has swept through this season with an undefeated district record of 5-0 and an overall win-loss ratio of 7-1.

Meeting such a powerful foe on the field, the Knights offense, which had experienced an upward trend, fell behind in total offense. Henryetta was able to secure just 68 yards and six first downs against Jones’ defense.

Jones obtained the lead early in the first half, opening the scoring with rushing touchdowns from their running back Korbin Cox. Unable to hold back the Longhorns on the ground, the Knights watched their opponents tack on another seven points to the scoreboard with a 64-yard punt return from Cadyn Karl, which put the Longhorns ahead 21-0.

Before the end of the first quarter, the Longhorns had pushed past the Knights offense, closing in on the end zone with the ball near the 10 yard line. Jones’ quarterback, Carson May, completed a 7-yard pass to wide receiver Daniel Jackson.

Establishing a 27-0 lead in the first quarter, the Longhorns had left little room for the Knights to make their usual second-quarter comeback. Cox once again tore up the field with several drives, carrying the ball for a 6-yard, 15-yard and 1-yard touchdown.

The Longhorns’ running back put them ahead of the Knights 48-0. Elijah Reed and Xavier Zachery chimed in for Jones to end the game in a 61-0 shutout loss for the Knights.

The Knights offense was barely to be seen Thursday with quarterback Jakob White just making two of 15 attempts in the air. With only two successful passes, his usually high-octane arm only reeled in 23 yards for the Knights.

Kameron Sisson tried to make up ground with a driving campaign but was stopped short by a tough Jones’ defense. He was only able to garner 45 rushing yards.

After their loss to Jones, the Knights are currently 6th in their district with a record of 2-3. The loss also meant that their overall season record took a hit, 3-5.

Despite the loss, the Knights have shown tremendous improvement from last season. The 2018-2019 season marked a tough year for the Knights, who were 1-9.

The Knights return to action in Week 9 on Friday, Nov. 1 to play Chandler at home. This will be the last home game for Henryetta before they take on Meeker in the last regular season game of the season.

Chandler is currently two spots above the Knights with a district record of 2-2 and an overall record of 3-4.
