Earning 259 yards against Arkoma, Dewar quarterback Joey Fowler led his team to another shutout win in Week 7. The Dragons demolished the Arkoma
Mustangs in a two-quarter 49-0 smackdown, improving their season record to 7-0. Remaining undefeated in district play, the Dragons are paving their way to the postseason.
A big 43-point first quarter immediately put the Dragons ahead of the Mustangs last Thursday. Dragon wide receiver Ty Whitlow started the scoring barrage with a 39-yard touchdown reception from Joey Fowler. Despite a failed kick, the Dragons had already established a 6-0 lead, which they immediately doubled with an 11-yard rushing touchdown from running back Shawn Maxwell. Proving they were a force to be reckoned with on the ground and in the air, the Dragons continued their rampage with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Fowler to Dragons running back Kaelem Carter.
Fowler was unstoppable in the air making two big passes to Maxwell and wide receiver Brett Hays. Extending the Dragons lead, Fowler completed a 20-yard pass to Hays and then turned around to make a 40-yard touchdown pass to Maxwell as well.
Already ahead 35-0, the Dragons needed just 10 more points to shut the game down for good. Dragon wide receiver Thomas Brownfield saw the perfect opening and made a 49-yard drive into the end zone. His rushing touchdown put the Dragons ahead of the Mustangs, who still hadn’t made a successful drive to the end zone, 43-0.
Entering into the second quarter, the Dragons were just two points away from their third shutout win. Tryton Mack secured a 10-yard run to end the game 49-0 in the first half, leaving the Mustangs with just three first downs.
The Dragons special teams also had a good night with Hays having a 50 percent success rate with field goals, while the Dragons completed three two-point conversion plays.
After earning their seventh straight win, the Dragons are set to travel to Gans on Friday, Oct. 25. Gans has had a turbulent season with wins sprinkled in between four losses, making their season record 3-4. They currently have a district record of 1-1.
