Knights white-out three-game losing streak, defeat Holdenville Wolverines 46-7

A stellar night for junior quarterback Jakob White, who threw 400 passing yards, helped the Knights clench a 46-7 victory over Holdenville at home Friday night. White completed six touchdown receptions throughout the game, helping lead to a 20-7 lead in the first half. Staying vigilant in the second half, the Knights broke through a three-game losing streak to improve their season record to 2-4.

Holdenville didn’t stand a chance in the first quarter with White finding wide receiver Kolby Kinslow open for a 72-yard passing touchdown. Henryetta special team member Tyler Wilson led the Knights to a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Wolverines tied the game up in the second quarter. Holdenville running back Cody Garlett drove in a 7-yard run for a tense 7-7 tie. Despite the Wolverines getting on the scoreboard in the second quarter, the Knights dropped a 34-yard bomb to wide receiver Phillip Fisher, who helped overturn the tie for a small 13-7 Knight lead. Another big pass from White to running back Alex Hudson propelled the Knights into a 13-point advantage before the end of the half.

In the third quarter, White opened the scoring with a small 9-yard pass to Kinslow, which extended the Knights lead to 26-7. Earning a double digit advantage, the Knights were unstoppable, while the Holdenville Wolverines’ offense tapered off after their second-quarter touchdown. Switching up tactics, the Knights also found some success driving the ball into the end zone. Tight end Issac McNac ran the ball in for a 5-yard touchdown, putting the Knights in the lead 32-7.

Entering the last stanza, the Knights were in control of a 25-point advantage. White and wide receivers Cameron McKinney and Kinslow led the Knights to a triumphant comeback. Throwing a 21-yard pass to McKinney, White secured his fifth touchdown reception of the night, while McKinney completed his first. The Knights ended the game the same way they started it. White made a 15-yard pass to Kinslow and a PAT kick from Wilson ended the game, 46-7. The 39-point win marks an upward trend for the Henryetta Knights, who had fallen in three games to Hartshorne, Okemah and Prague. The Knights are set to host another home game Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. against Kellyville in Week 6. The Ponies are currently 0-7, providing the Knights another opportunity to extend their one-game winning streak. The Knights’ throwing power might just be enough to topple the Ponies, who were defeated in Week 3 by county rivals the Morris Eagles (30-21). 1 2 3 4 HHS 7 13 12 14_46
