Henryetta residents Jeremy Johnson and Shane Cashman traveled to Ouachita to compete in the 2019 American Bass Anglers (ABA) Boater/Co-Angler Tournament. Out of 31 other competitors in the Boater category, Johnson placed 2nd after catching seven fish during the two-day tournament. Johnson had a stellar opening during the first day of the tournament, weighing in for 10.45 pounds. Returning for day two, Johnson reeled in another 7.91 pounds, totaling 18.36 pounds throughout the tournament. Johnson came in behind Justin Lillie, of Edmond, who caught nine fish that weighed in at 19.20 pounds. Lillie’s second day of the tournament saw him catch 12.45 pounds of fish, which nabbed him first place.
In the co-angler division, Cashman reeled in 16th place out of a pool of 21 opponents. It was the first day of the tournament that got him on the leaderboards. He caught two fish that weighed in at 3.05 pounds, which put him right under Broken Arrow fisherman Marc Barber, who caught three fish for a total of 4.01 pounds. Cashman had a rough second day in Ouachita and wasn’t able to lure in any fish, leaving him trailing behind Barber.
Henryetta High School student Joey Watson also competed in the co-angler division at the ABA tournament. He caught one fish for a weight of 1.65 pounds.
