The Henryetta Knights had a tough time getting their offense going in their first district game of the season. Hitting the road to compete against Okemah, Henryetta only made it into the endzone for one touchdown, leaving the Panthers free to gain a 46-7 victory over the Knights.
The Panthers had a strong rushing offense that left the Knights’ struggling against a 38-7 lead in the third quarter.
Both teams were slow to start in the first half with the Knights scoring their only touchdown and the Panthers adding two touchdowns to the scoreboard. The Panthers broke through first with an 87-yard rushing touchdown. A two-point conversion put them ahead 8-0, while the Knights were left short.
Falling behind 14-0 after the Panthers secured another touchdown, Henryetta quarterback Jakob White found wide receiver Cameron McKinney open. McKinney caught a 31-yard pass to get the Knights on the scoreboard 14-7 at the end of the half.
Despite cutting the Panthers’ lead in half, the Knights faltered in the second half. Henryetta guard Tyler Wilson took down a completed 19 tackles against the Panthers, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Panthers from finding their way into the endzone in the third quarter. After a slow start, the Panthers led a 24-point revival that propelled them into a double-digit advantage over the Knights. Earning a 48-yard touchdown on the ground, the Panthers kickstarted an unstoppable scoring streak. The Panthers completed a five-yard and two-yard rushing touchdown to nab a 38-7 lead over the Knights.
Though McKinney and White had managed to find an opening, the Knights’ offense took a downturn in the second half. Unable to make it to the endzone, the Knights were powerless to stop the Panthers from adding the last nail to their 39-point victory.
The Panthers secured a 29-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. With a struggling offense, the Knights weren’t able to answer the Panthers’ touchdown, resulting in a devastating 46-7 loss.
White was able to keep up his star power against the Panthers. He completed 235 yards in the air with 16 of his 35 attempts finding open receivers. The Knights wide receivers also had a good night. McKinney led his team with 104 yards with Alex Hudson following closely behind earning 46 receiving yards.
Penalties set the tone of the game for the Knights, contributing to their 46-7 loss. Twenty-one flags were thrown down against the Knights, which granted the Panthers a 196-yard advantage. Four passing interceptions also left the Knights struggling against a high-octane Panthers’ offense, which garnered a total offense of 459 yards.
