The Dewar Dragons led another impeccable offensive and defensive campaign at home against the Weleetka Outlaws. Selected as the Oklahoma National Guard game of the week, the Dragons ensured that their untouched record stayed in place with a 74-24 victory over the Outlaws.
A slow start for the Dragons’ offense left them 12-points behind the Outlaws in the first quarter. Weleetka was able to gain a 70-yard rushing touchdown, gaining a 6-0 drop on the Dragons to start the game.
With a shaky start, the Dragons seemed to lose their composure, resulting in an opening for the Outlaws. Weleetka recovered a fumble and made a 50-yard return touchdown to gain a 12-0 lead.
Though the Dragons faced a 12-0 deficit, Dragon quarterback Joey Fowler revived Dewar’s offense and changed the tide of the game. Finding wide receiver Ty Whitlow open for a 55-yard pass, Fowler secured a touchdown reception. Fowler would then tie the game with a one-yard run into the end-zone, 12-12.
Before the end of the first quarter, the Dragons took the lead with Shawn Maxwell earning a one-yard rushing touchdown.
The Dragons had made a tremendous 18-point comeback going into the second inning. Coming off of their revival, the Dragons dominated the field, allowing the Outlaws no room for a touchdown. With their opponent’s offense nonexistent, the Dragons had plenty of opportunity to more than double their advantage.
The Whitlow-Fowler combo got the Dragons another touchdown to start the second quarter. A 65-yard interception return from Fowler garnered the Dragons a 32-12 lead. Showing their prowess in the air, Fowler completed another 30-yard touchdown reception to Whitlow to end the first half 38-12.
The Outlaws had a small comeback in the second half, but the Dragons ensured a win with the power of Fowler and Tryton Mack’s throwing abilities. Dragon wide receiver started the third quarter with a powerful 49-yard pass from Fowler into the endzone, 46-12.
After a second-quarter hiatus, the Outlaws found an opening on the field for a 32-yard rushing touchdown and a 10-yard passing touchdown.
The Dragons answered with a one-yard drive from Fowler and a two-yard rushing touchdown, 62-24.
Having established a 40-point lead over the Outlaws, the Dragons just needed two more touchdowns to secure a win. Mack secured those two touchdowns with a 16-yard pass to Kaelem Carter and also drove in a 12-yard touchdown on the ground. With Mack leading a 12-point scoring streak in the fourth quarter, the Dragons snagged another win at home.
The Dragons have maintained a perfect record so far this year, 4-0.
