The Henryetta Knights couldn’t find their momentum in the first half against the Hartshorne Miners during their Homecoming game last Friday. Falling behind the Miners 34-0 in the first half, the Knights couldn’t match the Miners’ offensive power, leading to a 47-13 loss for the Knights.

A shaky start offensively in the first half left the Knights scrambling to find the end zone, while the Miners gained an uncontested 34-point jump on the Knights. Turnovers played a big part in the Knights’ slow offense in the first half.

The Miners scored their first touchdown running the ball down to the three yard line. Earning a three-yard run and a good PAT put them on the board 7-0 five minutes into the game. Downing the ball on the 50-yard line, the Knights got just one play in before Hartshorne intercepted a pass. The Miners took the ball in for a 27-yard interception return and a good kick put them ahead 14-0.

Henryetta running back Alex Hudson received the return on the 40-yard line. A run up the middle by Henryetta quarterback Jakob White got a four-yard gain for the Knights. On the third down, the Miners catch a tipped pass for an interception. The Miners took the ball all the way into the end-zone, but flags on the play recants the touchdown; instead, the Miners take over possession 12 yards from the end zone. Seconds after having taken control of the ball the Miners found a gap for a 12-yard rushing touchdown. With the kick not good, the Miners established a 20-0 advantage over the Knights in the first quarter.

The Knights were unable to recover from the two interceptions in the second quarter. Henryetta fullback Issac McNac kept the Knights active in the second quarter and led his team in rushing yards. He garnered 83 yards from 18 attempts against the Miners, but it wasn’t enough to stop his opponents from clenching two more touchdowns before the end of the first half. An 11-yard passing touchdown and one-yard rushing touchdown put the Miners in the lead 34-0.

The Knights seemed to bounce back in the third quarter with Henryetta wide receiver Cameron McKinney finding the end zone after a 20-yard pass from White. A PAT from Tyler Wilson put the Knights on the board 34-7. Despite the third-quarter revival, the Knights couldn’t stop the Miners from scoring. A five-yard run into the end zone left the Knights struggling against a Miners’ 40-7 lead.

The Miners garnered a 40-point advantage over the Knights in the fourth quarter. Their second one-yard run of the game put them in the lead 47-7, but the Knights got the last say. White found wide receiver Phillip Fisher open for a 30-yard passing touchdown. The Knights second touchdown of the night wasn’t enough to seal a win, resulting in a tough 47-13 loss.

The Knights fell behind the Miners’ total offense, while four turnovers contributed to the 34-point defeat.
