The Beggs Lady Demons took down the Morris Lady Eagles early Tuesday, earning a first-inning 4-0 lead. Their early advantage earned them their second win over their county rivals. The Lady Eagles matched the Lady Demons’ strength, earning four hits off of Beggs pitcher Kaci Phelps. Despite matching their offensive momentum, the Lady Eagles were only able to make it to home for one run in the top of the seventh inning, resulting in a 4-1 win for the Lady Demons.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Lady Demons took control of the field after holding back the Lady Eagles. Earning a four-run streak, the Lady Demons became untouchable the rest of the game. Hannah Padgett and Phelps got things moving with back-to-back singles.
After the Lady Demon’s first-inning scoring streak, it became a pitcher’s duel with Morris pitcher Courtney Wallace locking down the Lady Demons the rest of the game. She only gave up four hits to the Lady Demons throughout the entire game. Beggs left fielder Brooklyn Angielski made up half of the Lady Demons hits, earning two off of Wallace.
The Lady Demons fought hard to keep the Lady Eagles off of the scoreboard, holding them back until the seventh inning. Still in the lead 4-0, the Lady Demons watched as the Lady Eagles broke through their scoring draught to score one run, dashing their hopes of a shutout win. Morris’ Jessica Wilson earned the only RBI against the Lady Demons in the seventh inning, contesting the Lady Demons shutout lead, 4-1.
Though the Lady Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard in the seventh inning with a double from Avery Tittle, the Lady Demons still obtained a 4-1 win. Both Haileigh Mills, who sent players home on a catching error, and Caylee York, who hit a fielder’s choice, contributed to the Lady Demons win, earning an RBI each in the first inning.
Phelps pitched the whole game throwing nine strikeouts to earn a WHIP of 0.57. Morris’ Wallace was right behind her with six innings, two strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.00.
The Morris Lady Eagles were set to open their home tournament on Thursday, Sept. 5. They were set to play against the Dewar Lady Dragons in round one of the Morris Invitational. Morris also played against the Preston Lady Pirates Thursday before heading into the second day of the invitational. The Lady Eagles are scheduled to start the second day on Saturday, Sept. 7 against Pocola before playing Muldrow.
While the Lady Eagles are playing against county and regional teams, the Beggs Lady Demons will be prepping for their next game on Monday, Sept. 9. Traveling to Kiefer, the Lady Demons will meet the Lady Chieftains on the field at 5 p.m.
