September 1st, 1946 is the birth date of Jim Arnosky, author and illustrator of many children’s books about animals and nature. Born in New York, raised in PA, Jim began his writing career at the time of the Lyme disease scare and parents were keeping their children indoors. Being the environmentalist, he was, he wanted to share with children in his books all he could about the outdoors nature, plants and animals. He has not only written several children’s books; but he has illustrated several books for other authors. Jim, his wife and two daughters live in South Ryegate, Vermont in an old farm house on 20 acres. We have his (B-2) I See Animals Hiding; (YANF) Drawing from Nature; and a (JF) that he illustrated Joel and the Great Merlini by Eloise Jarvis McGraw.
Tony DiTerlizzi, American author of children’s books, fantasy artist and motion picture producer was born on September 6th, 1969 in Los Angeles, CA. The first of three children in his family, Tony grew up in South Florida, he loved to draw and read and was encouraged by family and teachers to work on his artistic abilities. He and a friend are responsible for the five-book series, The Spiderwick Chronicles. Tony and his wife and daughter live in Amherst, Massachusetts. We have his (B-2) Ted (which was published in 2001); (JF) The Field Guide; The Ironwood Tree; Lucinda’s Secret; The Seeing Stone; The Wrath of Mulgarath.
