A routine traffic stop earlier this week resulted in the arrest of a Henryetta man.
According to court records, on Monday, Aug. 19 at 9:20 a.m. a lieutenant with the Henryetta Police Department was travelling south on Lake Road when he observed a black Chevy traveling north. The officer allegedly recognized the driver as a Michael Davis, 26, and knew the driver had a suspended drivers license.
The officer made a traffic stop on Davis for Driving Under Suspension and also observed Davis’s truck was improperly pulling an orange utility style trailer which matched the description of a trailer reported stolen out of Okmulgee County.
According to the court affidavit the officer made contact with Davis and asked if he had a driver’s license and was informed he did not and knew he should not be driving. Davis was placed under arrest for driving under suspension and a wrecker was called for impound.
After contacting the wrecker, the officer attempted to locate the serial number on the trailer but discovered the tag had been spray painted over and it was no longer visible. At this time the officer made contact with the reporting party of the stolen trailer who was on duty at work. The owner stated it was an 18-foot orange trailer bought from Kubota. The owner also stated the trailer would have a dent in the top of the fender on the right side and the rear tire on the right side was missing a lug nut. The officer observed the trailer as matching the description given. The spray paint was cleaned off of the serial number and was observed as matching the serial number given on the original report of the stolen trailer.
Davis allegedly stated he purchased the stolen trailer from an older man who lived down the road from him. He stated he paid $400 for the trailer which he knew was very cheap and stated when he was pulled over, he figured the trailer must be stolen. The lieutenant went to the house described by Davis and talked to the owner who denied selling Davis a trailer.
Davis was booked into the Okmulgee County Jail on complaints of Driving Under Suspension, Failure to Comply with Compulsory Insurance and Knowingly Concealing Stolen Property. He was held on a $10,750 bond but has since bonded out. Davis will return to court on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. before Judge Ramirez.
