On August 3, the Rowan Fund did something that we have never done before. We had a fashion show.

At first, the idea sounded fun and exciting, but this was quickly followed by a feeling of doubt. What had I gotten us into?

I’ve never put on a fashion show. What if no one comes? What if people don’t think this is cool like I do? And the questions just continued to ramble on in my head.

Eventually I did a mental “slap to the ‘ol anxiety” and decided to just have fun with the event. That was ultimately the best choice.

The Rowan Fund Board had so much fun planning for the event and felt a sense of pride when it was over. The day went off without a hitch! And yes, people came to the show!

You want to know the best part? There was a couple in the audience that came up to me afterward and expressed their desire to be foster parents. Two minutes later they were connected with a DHS Foster Care recruiter who had a table at the show! That’s what it’s all about folks.

I’d like to take the opportunity to express gratitude for the people, individuals and organizations that helped to make the show a success. I’ll list them here.

If you would, the next time you see them would you tell them thank you for supporting Okmulgee County foster and adoptive parents?

The Rowan Fund Board members: Jeremy Avery, Trisha Bailey, Ashley Summers and Crystal Larabee; Richard Larabee, Chris Summers, Sean Van Hooser, Russell Bailey, Morgan Bailey; Ashely Smith - Ella Olivia Boutique; Our models: Chelsea, Brittney, Erika, Ale B, Ally, Ashley V, Maggie, Becky, Peyton, Charlsey and Jayli; Kristen Long, Michelle, Sutton and Lilli Giddens, Jo Linda Bailey, Stonebridge Academy, Unforgettable Moments Photography, Mainstreet Customz, Clearview Baptist Church, Okmulgee First Assembly of God, LJ Fitness, Neal’s Furniture, Hometown Treasures, Samantha Ausbrooks - Rodan & Fields, Miss Mary’s Market, DHS Foster Care Recruitment, Muscogee (Creek) Nation Foster Care, Amber Jennings - BeachBody, Texas Rangers Baseball Team, The LOKAL Okmulgee, Johnny on the Spot Mobile Detail, Justice Fit, Tonya with Body Solutions Massage and Exercise, Humble Heart Designs and Michael Hurd - Permanent Makeup Artist.

Each one of you helped to make the show a top notch event. We appreciate you all more than you know! Be sure to check out our Facebook page to see show highlights!

Jennifer Avery is the director of the nonprofit agency, “The Rowan Fund,” which seeks to support adoptive and foster families in Okmulgee County. She resides in Morris with her husband and two children. If you have questions or comments please send an email to: RowanFamilyTree@gmail.com.
