Dewar Middle School student Breona Harvell lent her talents to competitive softball team the Oklahoma Diamondbacks over the summer. The Oklahoma Diamondbacks, with the help of Harvell, made it all the way to the USSSA South National Championship where they placed 3rd. Harvell and her team went 4-4 throughout the tournament and have an overall record of 29-12-4. Spending two years with the Oklahoma Diamondbacks, Harvell spent this summer alternating between catcher and first baseman.
The Oklahoma Diamondbacks journeyed through pool play with a record of 1-2, but held the No. 2 spot in the standings. They came in right behind the Texas Lady Rippers who had a record of 3-0.
Harvell and the Oklahoma Diamondback pitcher Abby Morgan were selected as MVPs for the first pool game.
The first three games of the tournament ended in the Oklahoma Diamondbacks favor. Harvell and her team defeated the Ultimate 04 by five runs, 7-2, to continue on in the bracket. Going up against South Texas Crush, who had just won a 5-0 shutout victory, the Diamondbacks secured another win, 8-5.
The last day of the tournament Harvell and the Diamondbacks busted out one last win against the Louisiana Impact Gold. Their opponent had a similar journey throughout nationals and remained undefeated.
The Oklahoma Diamondbacks suffered their first loss of the tournament, falling to the Impact Gold in a tough 5-1 decision.
Knocked down to the consolation bracket, the Diamondbacks faced another Louisianna team. The first round of the consolation bracket ended in another loss for the Diamondbacks.
Harvell and her team suffered a two-run loss against Louisianna Titans Frazier, 6-4.
