The Okmulgee Roy LeBlanc Invitational Rodeo, now in the 64th year, will draw thousands to town on Friday and Saturday.
Competition both nights begins at 8 p.m. at the Bob Arrington Arena at the Creek Nation Omniplex.
From small beginnings, the founders of the rodeo has seen it grow over the years. Kenneth LeBlanc is the director of the rodeo, and is supported by many family and friends to help make this event a success.
Thousands of spectators fill the arena stands to watch cowboys and cowgirls compete in nine different events. They come from all over the country, including some from Okmulgee.
The nine competition events are Pony Express, Bull Riding, Calf Roping, Bareback Riding, Steer Wrestling, Ladies Barrel Racing, Junior Barrel Racing, Ladies Steer Undecorating and Junior Breakaway Roping.
Entry for the public is $5 for children, $10 for senior citizens and $15 for adults. There is a weekend special available for $20 for both nights of competition, according to LeBlanc.
Hundreds of people will line the streets of downtown Okmulgee for the annual parade which is held on Saturday at 4 p.m.
During the parade, spectators will see various riding clubs, dance troupes, floats, cars and motorcycles, plus lots of horses.
The major sponsors of the event are the City of Okmulgee, Muscogee Nation OneFire Casino, James Hodge Chevrolet, and the Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce.
