Henryetta Head Start renovations continue

Henryetta Head Start/Early Head Start staff have been working hard with renovating and updating the building in anticipation for the first day of school on Thursday, Aug. 15. New wood

Henryetta Head Start/Early Head Start staff have been working hard with renovating and updating the building in anticipation for the first day of school on Thursday, Aug. 15. New wood laminate flooring was installed as well as padded carpet in the classrooms. Furniture and shelves in soft earth tones were purchased and added to the rooms. One major addition to the building is the new front door and security system for entry ways. Parents and other visitors will no longer be able to just walk through an unlocked door.

Three new teachers were hired. In addition, Head Start in Henryetta has a new director, Family Service Advocate (FSA) and new area supervisor.

Henryetta Head Start’s new director is Tabatha Garrison.

No longer a teacher, Judith Daily has become the Family Service Advocate (FSA). Judith has been with Henryetta Head Start for the past 18 years. She recently took over as the FSA last spring.

In the three-year-old room, Melody Watson is the teacher and Carrie Swen is the teacher’s aide.

Lori Kanada is the Head Start teacher and her aide is Tessa Placker.

Early Head Start teachers are Cynthia Cruz and Delayna Wind.

Sheryl Chapman is a multi-functional aide, assisting wherever she is needed.

Rachel Scott continues her role as cook.

Enrollment is ongoing for both Early Head Start and Head Start (three- to five-year-olds).

“Children in the Head Start class do not have to be potty trained,” Garrison said. “We encourage all parents to bring a change of clothes when they drop off their children.”

Applications are accepted from low-income families as well as a percentage of over-income families. Even if you are over-income, please apply, there is a good chance that your child or children would be accepted into the program.

All of the staff at Henryetta Head Start are excited for classes to resume and look forward to seeing all the children.

A Meet the Teachers Open House will be held on Monday, Aug. 12 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

For more information, contact Head Start staff at 918-652-8092 or visit 100 W. Clegern in Henryetta.
